Allright, I just watched this and although I enjoyed the material (which I'm not sure is a good thing or not!) I do have a BIG problem with the way they did the transfer- since everything was shot on video, they presented the ENTIRE movie, including end credits, taken from a VIDEO source instead of FILM, at 30 frames per second! Sorry to nit-pick Ron, but I wish the review had pointed that out as I wouldn't have bought it having known that. I didn't get to see this in the theatres but having worked for close to 10 years as a projectionist I know there is NO way that it looked like that in theatres! I felt like I was watching "Jackass: The Video", not "Jackass: The Movie"!
Since they put out a separate "fullscreen" disc anyways, they should have just made that one from the video souce and the widescreen disc from a film print so we could see it both ways. I picked the widescreen disc since I wanted to see it as close as possible to what a proper theatrical presentation looked like, and this wasn't it!

Regarding Private Parts, I have to wonder how enthusiastic Howard would be now about revisiting a film that ultimately is about his great marriage, which, of course, ended in divorce. I've read that he's considering putting out uncensored DVDs of the E show...I think those would be big sellers.

Let me just say first of all, I am OAR all the way. Not a MAR disc in the lot of my collection.

That being said, since jackass is being taken directly from the video 29.97 fps master, then what is the true aspect ratio of the movie? Necessity dictated that they had to put it into some form of widescreen for theatrical presentation and that 1.33:1 is just no longer an option. (Unless you're Kubrick) All the stuff shot for Jackass and CKY has been 4:3 material and since they indeed are going to the original source for transfers which is 4:3...

I wish I could just ask Jeff Tremaine which he prefers and be done with it.

Although, Son of Jackass was filmed with film. That means that unless the fullscreen version includes a matted version of that, I really have no option. Again, I wish I could just know what Jeff thinks.

One would hope so ;)

In all seriousness, given that most of the footage was captured with either hidden or handheld cameras (sometimes both), I doubt anyone was worrying about such issues as framing and cinematography. Whichever version you wanna pick up should be equally fine.

I feel the same way. I had never seen the show on MTV but after reading the mostly favorable but mixed reviews here I thought I'd give it a try. It was terrible! I returned it the same day so I could get a $1 rental credit.

I love Slap Shot, Strange Brew, Escanaba in Da Moonlight and the typical Animal House, Caddyshack and Major League comedies but Jackass didn't appeal to me at all. I guess the genitalia, yakking and butt humor isn't my type of thing. Oh well.

Like PT Barnum said "There's a sucker born every minute". I guess it was my time.

I have to say that my ribs hurt the day after watching this, from laughing so hard. As far as rewatching, there are definately some scenes that are too gross to watch a second time...but they are outnumbered by the scenes that I could watch five times in a row laughing harder every time.

The guys that hated this movie, probably could have guessed they weren't going to like it from the start. There's no secret to what these guys do, and you could only guess that it was going to be much worse in an R rated movie. If you're not sure, watch the TV show...if you laugh out loud, you'll love the movie...if you chuckle a little, you might like the movie...and if you're not amused by the TV show, there's no chance that you'll find humor in the movie.

In regards to the gay porn comments, that's like saying a woman watching film of childbirth has lesbian tendencies. Just because you look at a part of the anatomy that is used in sex, doesn't mean that you're looking at it in a sexual manner. I suppose I'm into kiddie porn for wiping my baby's a$$?

As far as the "gooch", we always called it the "taint"...taint your (front),and taint your(rear).

No, it won't win the apple... ;)

...but dammit it's ok to laugh once in a while and this one does it for me (at times). The golf carts were hilarious, and I don't know if I laughed more than I cringed or if I was in awe at people defying logic.

I think this is more rental material than must own. Once was necessary and once was enough.

Anyway, the extras menus are a little wonky... why would additional footage be "hidden" and found only after going to the "more" tab?

I watched the outtakes before the additionals thinking that was the 27 minutes extra footage.

Airplane, Blues Bros, Animal House, The Jerk, Dumb and Dumber, are all icons in classic humour, but after a number of viewings and years, the jokes aren't funny... my kids think the Blues Bros is a terrible movie (oldest is 18!)...

...I kinda see myself when they watched this flick (yes I let them!) and wonder if their kids will look at them strangely in 20 years for having a fondness for holding Jackass in a special place (cuz it made them laugh) and in the same light as we do for the old Police Squad movies.
