HT Subwoofer on a 5.1 pc? (noob q) (1 Viewer)

5.1 sound cards contain a subwoofer output along with centre. If I get a mini-stero (or whatever it's called) to 2xRCA audio Y cable, i should be able to get just the subwoofer channel.

Since HT subwoofers are powered, I could connect then connect the subwoofer line into the subwoofer.

Would this work? I'm guessing it would, but then again, I haven't heard of anyone doing this before. I'm planning on hooking up a 100watt sub to go with my 2x3watt speakers. (totally serious )
