How is Regal Cinemas? (1 Viewer)

Hoyts which owns 57 of the 59 first run screens around here just sold out to Regal. I've been reading that in some cities they've started running 20 minute blocks of commercials before the films is this true? If so the 4 or 5 minutes that Hoyts ran doesn't looks so bad.

Yes, but they're timed to end when the movie is schedualed to begin. So the trailers start at 7:30 or whatever

Yes, they have something called The Twenty before the movie starts. After the movie starts you see the Army commercials still then the previews. I don't mind watching The Twenty, better than going through the same questions or facts over and over again or just a black screen.

What I don't like about Regal is they have some very small theaters they move the movies too, feels like you're there to see a porno. One aisle with 3 chairs on either side and a very small screen.

Regal owns all but one of my local theaters. In this part of the country, they are not yet showing 20 minutes of commercials before the movie.

I guess it depends on what's in your area. The only Regal near me that I know of is a relatively large and new building, with high quality in even the smallest auditoriums. Big screens, good sound systems, stadium seating...all that good stuff. So from my point of view, Regal has actually made a good impression based on their presentation

Regal bought the United Artists theatre here in Kalamazoo and immediately stopped carrying "Junior Mints" which, as you know are very refreshing.

That's my only real qualm, they make me violate their "no outside food" policy because of their dimissal of my favorite movie snack.

Well, they are certainly an improvement over Hoyts, which owned all the theaters in Frederick. They were pretty bad.

As others have said, I like the fact that Regal runs their commercials before the start time of the movie, rather than stick them before the trailers at the start time.

Mostly regals near me too. They're fine. Seats are comfortable. The print is occasionally dirty, and ocasionally they forget to change the matting for the movie. There is a brand new AMC that is absoultely fantastic, but it's a bit of a drive for me. I go there for the important movies, like Lord of the Rings

Regal Cinemas is partially responsible for funding James Cameron's 3-D projection system, and have set up lots of their theatres to run films using it (GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS being the first) so they're OK with me!

Most of the Regal places in Las Vegas are quite nice.

My brother works in a Hoyt's in Maine that was just purchased by Regal, and he's hoping for good things - apparently the guy from Regal was appalled enough by what he found there to recommend upgrading just about every room.

And, he pointed out, advance tickets would now be available via Fandagno.com as opposed to MovieTickets.com. Since MovieTickets is high on my list of "most aggravating site to use that's potentially useful", that's seen as a big plus.

Regal sucks, they're the Blockbuster of movie theaters. The quality of the Edwards Cinemas in Houston have gone steadily downhill since they were bought out by Regal. Ticket prices have gone up twice, and it seems like there are more problems then ever before with projector setup and audio.

And while they may be doing "The Twenty" befrore the scheduled start time now, they only started that after the publicity around those lawsuits (which I don't think they were actually a party of). When the Edwards cinemas first switched over to Regal, they went from having one or two commercials and a PSA to having upwards of 10 minutes of commercials, and this was at the scheduled movie start time, not before.

We used to the movies pretty much every week, now it's down to once a month at most, and in fact it's been almost two months since the last time we went. A big part of that has to do with the way Regal runs their theaters.

Regal owned United Artist theatre near me is pretty much top of the line. Great screens, decent size auditoriums all around for a 16 screen theatre. A 70mm screen plus they are showing older movies at midnight each friday and saturday. Matrix was just shown and coming up they are showing all three Indiana Jones movies.

As for commercials, they do the whole 20 minutes before which includes their "popcorn, don't smoke, no litter, enjoy the show" trailer. As soon as the time that is printed on your ticket hits it immediately goes to trailer #1. No army commercials or movie phone, or Pass it On commercials like before. Must say it is pretty nice.

Well, there is a Regal and an AMC about a half a mile away from each other. I usually don't go to either one, because they are nothing compared to the AMC 24 about 10 miles away.

The Regal and the AMC never show the same movies because they are so close, and the Regal never gets the big movies. It's also about 10 years old, so they have pretty small auditoriums.

AMC is by far the best around me.

Same here. I've attended enough small run films at Regal to know that even the "smallest" theater they have is quite nice and all of them have excellent audio, which is the biggest draw for me. If it wasn't for the fact of Hollywood Cinema installing an Ultrascreen, I would use Regal exclusively (for mainstream films).

My local Regal with 70mm told me this would be impossible. Can you give me the exact name of the theater that's doing these things?

I also like the fact that Regal only checks to see if I have a Univeristy ID. Both my fiancee and I are staff at different universities, but we still pay student prices

I don't think he means they are running them in 70mm, I think he means that the particular auditorium (that has 70mm capability) is running these older films. I've been looking into 70mm print availability recently (as I'm planning to get 70mm machines installed in our Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, NY, soon) and there are still a few decent prints out there. Paramount hasn't been able to tell me about any of the Indy films, they don't *think* they have them, but Columbia has around 25 70mm features - including Annie, The Bear, Blue Thunder, Castle Keep, The Doors, Ghostbusters, In the Line of Fire, Lawrence of Arabia, Lifeforce, Lord Jim, Silverado, T2, and Total Recall - that they want me to play when we get up and running with it. I'm waiting to hear back from Warner, Universal, Fox/Criterion, and MGM as to what they have in 70mm. Coming in 2004 - the 70mm festival!

For Jeff Kohn. What theater(s) are you going to/recommend? I mainly go to Edwards on I-10, but like you said....it's going down hill. Now, I go to one on Nasa and I-45 S. Can't remember the name, but it is pretty nice.
