I'm wanting to hook a microphone up to my HK AVR 325 so my 3 year old can play "Rock Star". Is this possible and if so any tips on how or types of mics and where to get them would be very much appreciated.

You can get a cheapie DJ mixer at Radio Shack:

These might be even better options, and cheaper to boot:

http://www.behringer.com/UB802/index.cfm?lang=ENG
$65 list.

http://www.behringer.com/UB502/index.cfm?lang=ENG
$45 list.

It’s not a problem to find Behringer discounted at any number of e-tailers, like Muscian’s Friend, Parts Express, etc.

For a cheap mic, Radio Shack is probably your best bet.

You want a unidirectional, mic, not an onmidirectional Those will feedback easily. To avoid feedback with a unidirectional, avoid positioning the head of the mic on-axis with the speakers.

Even with budget gear like this, and in a seemingly non-threatening situation like this, you have to keep in mind that live vocals have tremendous dynamics, which can easily clip your receiver or overdrive your speakers. This is why it’s generally not recommended to mix live performances with home equipment. If your son ever screams into the mic, or drops it, it could toast your speakers.
