Help me understand progressive scan DVD players (1 Viewer)

I have a 2 year old Sony 53" RPTV it is not a HD ready TV, it does have componet vedio imputs, can I benefit from a progressive scan DVD player now or should I wait till I get a HDTV? Also what are the differences between a progressive scan and a regular DVD player?

A p/s player won't do you any good with that TV. For an introduction to what progressive players do, check out the following:

Wow! I had no ideal tvs worked like that. Thanks for the info, I will wait on any purchase of a new DVD till I get a HDTV. Thanks a bunch, now all I have to do is build a mini whole house video distribution system for my 3 Direct TiVos. I am thinking of using a through the phone lines box from radio shack. Anyone used one of these?
