The Elephant Man won 3-2
Fitzcarraldo won 2-0
The Vanishing won 2-1
Local Hero and Sorcerer were tied at 1 each.
I think it's about time to say goodbye to this tourney. When I take the original lists, delete everything that was voted against, here's what was left. They either won their bracket, or were tied.
Steve's remainding movies:
Angels and Insects
Sorcerer
Vanishing, The (1988)
Where the Green Ants Dream

My remainding movies:
After Life
Children of Heaven
Citizen X
Crumb
Dersu Uzala
Elephant Man, The
Elmer Gantry
Fitzcarraldo
Household Saints
Local Hero
Peeping Tom
Pledge, The
Ponette
Tumbleweeds
Until the End of the World

I could choose 4 from my list to go up against Steve's 4, but I wouldn't know which ones to pick. I love them all and couldn't choose.
Grave of the Fireflies was Steve's most dangerous movie. It took out several big titles: Arsenic and Old Lace, Sling Blade, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and Gods and Monsters. It was finally defeated by The Elephant Man.
There were a whopping 22 brackets which were tied during the tourney, with Steve's Sorcerer involved in 4 of them, and Where The Green Ants Dream involved in 3.
6 of the ties had neither movie getting votes, while in 11 of the ties the movies had one vote each.
There were several 1-0 wins, too many to count (ok, too depressing to count). Most seemed to be 2-1 brackets.
Without question, Bill McA wins the "WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!!" award. He single-handedly kept this tourney running. In nearly every case, his was the "1" in the 1-0 wins. Thanks Bill! My awe at your depth of moviewatching is huge.

Steve, even though this was an uneven tourney that got sidelined and bitched about several times, I enjoyed seeing your list of movies and have seen several of them since the tourney started, most importantly Salt of the Earth, which I'll always thank you for bringing to my attention. (Do you get the TRUE STORIES channel? It's part of the whole Encore package along with Westerns, Mystery, etc. There's a movie coming up about the filmmaker who made Salt of the Earth. I can get more information if you're interested.)
Thanks to all those who participated, even those who just popped into to say they couldn't vote. :D
