I am quickly losing faith in the HTF!
What's the problem? I think just about everybody agrees that The Godfather is a brilliant film. Anyone who doesn't think so has misfiring cinema synapses. I've seen it several dozen times myself and love it. But there's nothing wrong with more often being in the mood to watch a great comedy. Lebowski isn't my favorite Coen comedy, but it looks like I'm not going to be able to vote for those, so I'll throw my vote their way for this one.

"The problem" is that I don't understand why so many people would want to watch a comedy like The Big Lebowski over, what you yourself admit, is a "brilliant film". And the fact that Lebowski isn't even your favorite Coen comedy, yet you still vote for it over the brilliant Godfather, simply doesn't make sense to me.

I would rather watch brilliant cinema than a "good" comedy at least 90% of the time.

I also consider myself a very big fan of the Coen Bros. But prefer The Big Lebowski to The Godfather? Nope. Not by a long shot!

"Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man."
:D
The Big Lebowski is quite literally the funniest comedy I've seen. It gets ***funnier*** the more I see it. For this unimaginable feat alone it gets my vote. Love the script, love the performances, love the story, love the music, love the Dude. I love this film.
I admire The Godfather. I can recognise its importance to cinema, and the impact its had on our culture. But I don't love it.

Alright fellow members, we have to do something here. Our pal Rob is losing faith. What can we do? First, I thought maybe we should all go back and change our votes. Then I realized that wouldn't be right. We have to smooth him over in another way. We could all go in together and get him a nice box of race-car shaped chocolates. No, then he might think we were coming on to him. So out with the flowers too. Maybe we could all change our sigs to something from Lawrence of Arabia. No that would suck. It's like my dear old grandpappy used to say, "You can have Lawrence some of the time for some of the people, you can have Lawrence all of the time for some of the people, but you can't have all Lawrence all of the time for all of the people." Or something like that. Maybe that was pornography he was talking about. Oh well, you get the picture. So what to do? Send him emails saying we really love Godfather, but the evil Coen Imp came and said if we didn't vote Lebowski he would burn our women and rape our fields? We could all sew sweaters out of our Lawrence slip covers. I don't know. I'm at a loss. All I know is that if Rob loses faith, well then.... uh.....um......ahh....let me see..... something is not good. Or something.

"The Man in me would do,
Nearly any task,
And as for compensation, there's a little he would ask,

It'll take a woman of your kind,
To find, The Man In Me."

What a coup! The Big Lebowski wins 15 - 10!
You'll be telling your grandkids about this one!
Next up, the Coens take on Middle Earth!
Round 1 - Bracket 3
Blood Simple vs. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Excluded from voting: John Dhein
My vote: Blood Simple
I could easily have gone the other way, but I decided to go with the underdog. :)

Thanks Kissinger!
My faith in the HTF has been restored thanks to your post! :emoji_thumbsup:
This bracket is perfect timing for me since I just finished watching LOTR: FOTR for the second time last night. I must say that after watching it a second time, my feelings towards this movie have changed quite a bit. I like it much more than I did after the first viewing! It really is a very good film!
That being said, Blood Simple is probably my second favorite Coen Bros. film. Simply superb film making, and it gets my vote.
