I'm surprised there isn't more support for Used Cars. Easily one of the funniest films I've ever seen.

got it, thanks

There's still plenty of worthy Directors left to be nominated & on the nominations list. We only have 14 wild-card Directors in so far. I'd really like to get 64.

I guess if the pace doesn't pick up I'll just scrap the Wild-cards altogether & just go with the Main list.

Anyone care to nominate John Cassavetes, Hal Ashby, Wim Wenders, Nicholas Roeg, or Louis Malle.
[editorial] I can believe these people aren't in and someone like Keven Smith is already through [/editorial]

I'd be happy to nominate Wenders and Malle, if and when we get more noms. ;)

I assumed they were on the master list. Should have looked. :frowning:

Theatrical films only - sorry. I know certain directors have made great mini-series, pilots, made-for TV movies, student films, music videos, etc. I want to concentrate only on theatrical releases otherwise this'll get way too muddled.
So, no Tarkovsky in this tournament because he made "Steamroller and Violin" (the "eighth film") as a student, even though it has been theatrically screened, appeared at festivals, and is even available on DVD in this region... and this simply because he was a student when he made it?

And no Jean Vigo, despite his being one of the greatest directors ever, if only on the basis of three films?

And no consideration of "The Decalogue" when Kieslowski's name comes up? No consideration of "Berlin Alexanderplatz" when Fassbinder's name comes up? No consideration of "The Kingdom" for von Trier? No consideration of "Fanny and Alexander" for Bergman? No consideratin of "Twin Peaks" for Lynch?

These rules simply do not allow for the full flowering of cinematic genius of many of the greatest directors.

So, have fun deciding whether Kevin Smith is indeed greater than Tim Burton! Should be, uh, illuminating.... ;)

Rich has got gas, I see. :D

While I suppose exceptions could be made, if you open the door just a crack, some people are going to try and push it wide open. Just look at the nomination process in my noir tourney. The Big Lebowski?
