I'll choose man's ability to master the sea for my next selection. Creating vessels capable of withstanding the power of the ocean and learning to utilize the wind meant that man was no longer confined to his own continent, and the shape and characteristics of the earth were no longer mere speculation. For better or worse, the ability to travel thousands of miles to the most remote corners of the earth had profound impact on civilization.

I'll take, Impression, soleil levant (Impression, Sunrise) by Claude Monet. It gave the name to one of the most important art movement of the 19th century, rejecting academic painting and paving the way for modern art.

I'll select irrigation as my next pick - learning to manipulate water and making agriculture possible in areas otherwise uninhabitable by man.
