Most interesting is this:

Leaks suggest the Nexus One will be a global-system device with a 3.7-inch touch screen, five-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, an accelerometer and a compass, according to CNN.com partner, Wired magazine. It is expected to run the latest version of the Android operating system, Android 2.1, which is also made by Google but runs on other phones as well.
It's widely speculated that the phone will be "unlocked," meaning users won't have to sign up for long-term contracts with a particular mobile carrier to use the phones -- as is the case with most major phones now.

This is a bigger advantage then I think people realize. Being able to buy without being linked t a contract or a particular carrier is a HUGE advantage I can't think of another phone sharing. If Google's goal is to quickly up their application base, I also have to acknowledge their open-platform method could make the Nexus/Android development a rapid fire world.

Not in america really, where the only provider most people would want (Verizon) is on a completely incompatible cellular network. And from early accounts the T-Mobile version the googlers got won't work with AT&T 3G, just crappy edge. I want the Nexus/Android to succeed just to push Apple, but so far this phone seems no better than the droid + a better processor to me.

Ad supported? Something we haven't heard of yet? Google needs to pull out a BIG surprise for this to not be a major ho hum revelation since all the other major points ahve leaked.

Where's the beef?

I sat through that entire debacle of a press conference and all I can say is this:

"Anyone who pays for this mess gets what they deserve".
