Definitely looking forward to this one. Was debating letting them all collect on the DVR and binge watch since I believe it's only one season, but I doubt I'll resist the temptation.

I read yesterday that this is setup like American Horror Story. The next season will be different characters, but possibly same actors. This allows the actors to not be locked into a multi year contract.

Had a feeling it would be good. Didn't realize it would be GREAT. I'd watch all 10 episodes right now if I had 'em. Really excited for next week. Malvo's speech to Colin Hanks near the end was perfect and bone-chilling.

(I completely missed it, though...what caused the wound on Lester's hand? Was it a shotgun-shell from earlier? It looks like it could also be a spider-bite.)

Really liked it. Hoping it won't peter out after a such a great start (a la Twin Peaks). With a closed end run of 10 eps, it probably won't. Glad I didn't read too much about it beforehand so that I had a good surprise with one of the characters.

Yup -- this sure started with a bang. Substantial body-count. Was liking this just fine until Lester declared it hammer time. Then I was absolutely hooked.

Loved that little laugh Kate Walsh did when she saw what her sons were doing.

Yeah, this was a great and I mean REALLY great premiere episode. I rotated between laughing to just waiting for what would happen next. This cast absolutely delivers.

Someone compared it to the movie.. it's not the movie.. it's different, but it's still damn good.

Finished the first episode a little while ago, and it was excellent. A little shocked at the level of violence, but in hindsight I suppose it isn't that surprising considering the content in the film.

Billy Bob Thornton just owned every scene featuring him. Particularly liked his 'dickish instigator' mode. So many great moments featuring his character in the first episode. Loved him staring down Sam Hess and his sons at the truck warehouse. "He seems a little dim. Have you had him tested?"

While not quite up to the level of Rust's philosophical statements in True Detective, Lorne's statement to Lester in the dinner is somewhere in the same ballpark...

“Your problem is you spent your whole life thinking there are rules. There aren’t. We used to be gorillas. All we had was what we could take and defend.”—Lorne Malvo

Yes.... just watched the first episode and was very impressed. They have managed to extract the tone and setting and build from there. I have never made it through any of the Hobbit films (not among the gnome friendly) but between this show and SHERLOCK, Martin Freeman is my new favorite actor. Can't wait to see the next 9 episodes.

That was one of the better pilots I've ever seen (and I'm a huge fan of the movie). Definitely captures the feel of the movie, but it seems the story will be entirely different.

I missed what caused the cut on his hand as well, but assumed it was from the hammer.

Also, how did Lorne get out of the basement? It seemed pretty clear there was no exit from down there and he obviously didn't come back upstairs.

I think the cut on his hand is actually a buckshot pellet. Proof he was there when the Chief was killed.

I thought this would be a slow burn...I guess I was wrong! Darned curious to see where it goes from here.

If Anton Chigurh was the Angel of Death, Malvo is definitely an agent of chaos. And, what's with his call center assassination management office?

I think he came up from the basement and exited out the back while there was a panic upstairs and he was looking out the window. That's my guess.

I could see Allison Tolman's character and some bit-parts carrying over to a new storyline, but I'm not expecting many of the criminal characters (i.e., the plot-drivers) to make it out of this year intact.

Even if they go semi-anthology with it, they don't have the free reign that True Detective or American Horror Story have. You can't really pick up a show called "Fargo," and do an entire season of it in Florida.

(On an unrelated side-note: Had a good laugh at White Russians as the drink-special in the diner.)

I was a little worried at first; although I knew going in that this wasn't going to involve the same characters or situation as the Coen Bros' movie, the beginning of the debut episode felt a bit like a 'pod person' version of the movie to me. Martin Freeman's 'Lester Nygaard' wasn't Macy's 'Jerry Lundegaard', but he sort of was... but he wasn't... but he was. Different sort of spouse and a worse home life with her, different-but-similar sales job. Freeman's a good actor, but I thought he overplayed his Macy-esque part a little in his introductory scenes. His old high school bully, with the two idiot sons, seemed to be a bit too obviously and openly dumb, as though they emerged from a typical sitcom world. The little 'Minnesota nice' touches didn't seem nearly as funny as when the Coens themselves did them. None of these things were anything close to being awful, they just seemed to me like a plastic replica of the feature film, with some tweaks to make them a little different.

All of these concerns melted away when Billy Bob Thornton's 'Lorne Malvo' entered the scene. What a fascinating character! Then Lester takes the wrong path and the episode shed the slightly plastic veneer that was bothering me. The eccentric touches got funnier. It sort of became 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' meets 'Fargo'. The subsequent stuff, involving the bully and sons (and his wife), Lester's wife, the sheriff & deputy and especially Lorne and his interactions with various characters he meets, was great. Thornton's scene with Colin Hanks was pure gold.

I'm really looking forward to what happens next... it's shaping up to be a great series.

Really great second episode. Lots of solid moments, but what a way to end.. the entire sequence on the ice and the soundtrack to go with it was fantastic.
We've got a lot of characters going on.. it doesn't all flesh out yet, but I'm enjoying the heck out of the journey on this one. It's going to be a day-1 buy for me if it keeps this up.

Liked the episode. Just one quick question, I don't know sign language but I was wondering if they were actually signing or was it some unique communication between the two of them that only they would understand?

I was thinking the same thing. I do wonder how accurate it was, if at all.
