Fans of Patrice Chereau will be disappointed to hear the USA release of Son Frere is very poor
That's a pity Strand are so lazy (nothing new).
The French DTS looks the best so far although there's no English subtitles. The UK disc (14 June) is being listed as "Widescreen anamorphic DD5.1").
Here's hoping.

Thanks for that info Daniel. I'll wait and see what the UK DVD of Son Frere looks like before buying.

I found out that Universal owns the distribution rights in the US and Canada for Before the Rain. Does anyone have any connections there that can help get this film released?

Donald,

Are you sure that the Oliveira box set has been released? I haven't seen it for sale anywhere, but perhaps you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Jonathan, I thought one or two members of the listserv said they had gotten it from Portugal. I certainly can't find it anywhere myself, so I'm wondering if it wasn't the Monteiro set that was mentioned.

Placing it back into the "In the works" section for now.

Alan Clarke Box Set: Scum/Made in Britain/The Firm/Elephant (Clarke, UK) Blue Underground
Anyone seen anything of that? It seems to be called "No Fear" as a set. No sign of it as far as I can see. I was looking forward to seeing Elephant cleaned up. Might need to buy the CE in France of the Van Sant version as it has it on there.
Incidentally, for fans of Bruno Dumont (La Vie de Jésus/L'Huamnitié) I implore you to watch Twentynine Palms. I see Wellspring are to release it in the USA but they have a very poor record. The French disc is reference quality. That is not a term I use lightly. Great (spoiler free) article on Dumont here
...back on topic...
Proof. (Jocelyn Moorhouse/Russell Crowe) 5 August. Village Roadshow. Australia Region 4
Black Cat White Cat (Emir Kusturica) 25 June. AV Channel. Australia Region 4.
No detailed information yet, but I'm sure fans will want to get in there early.

Will the Bunuel set be available for individual purchase? I'd really just want to buy The Milky Way.

The Buñuel, Renoir, and Godard sets unfortunately appear to be all or nothing. The Milky Way is likely to be the next one or two Buñuel releases by Criterion, so I'm willing to wait on that. Belle de Jour is the one I would want separately, as it'll probably be better than the R1 disc.

I'd be interested to see what the transfer is like on the R4 version of Lovers of the Arctic Circle. I currently have the Tartan R2 UK version which is pretty poor and unfortunately the gorgeous Spanish R2 is OOP (as is the Medem boxset incidentally). Here's hoping they've licensed the Spanish transfer...
