Applying the same logic to video makes it a bit clearer. Combine an efficient codec with an efficient lossless audio codec and I have a hard time believing a 50 gig disc is necessary. I'm not thinking of format war issues here rather I'm looking at how much of a cost savings this could be to both the replication studios and us the consumer.

And what if there's a nice 60-minute 1080p24 HD documentary to go along with that movie? Bonus material in HD will take some space. Naturally, no studio will waste the $ to stamp a 50GB BD if the film's authored encode only uses 25 GB, but i'm still surprised that so many HT enthusiasts have difficulty imagining a use-case for 50GB.

(p.s. even with TrueHD instead of PCM, Chicaco would have needed a dual-layer BD given all it's bonus material and high-video-bit-rate.)
