The HDD reviewer (reviewers?) has trouble distinguishing between how a movie was filmed and how it was transferred. He gave "Chicago" 4 out of 5 stars, too. However, a certain personality here with intimate knowledge of film said "Chicago shines on Blu-Ray, and is added to the short list of films that has made it's way to home video with virtual perfection."
He gave the PQ a 4 out of 5, and the 4.5 out of 5 for the sound quality. That puts his review right in the ball park as the rest. Hardly a negative review. Bottom line is that I am seeing way too many 5 out of 5 PQ and AQ reviews, which makes me a read a review 'with a grain of salt'.
When in doubt, I usally turn to Widescreen Review Magazine, which has been my main source of purchasing decisions for DVD's, and now HD's and BD's.
I think Bracke's criticisms have more to do with the look of the film itself. The way he described the PQ is EXACTLY the way it looked to me in the theater. Don't blame the BD transfer, blame the director and DP.
