I did a fast comparison test between the old LD and the new DVD screenshots from dvdbeaver. First you have the DVD then the LD

Woah, that's quite a difference. And it looks to be more than mere artificial brightening of the image on the LD (though there looks to be that, too).
I was very impressed with this DVD. Fun movie, too. Everything I wanted from the Hammer Dracula/vampire movies but seldom got.

I don't agree on that on some of the shots. 1,2 and 5 shot I vastly prefer the LD's better image over the murky and dark DVD.
