Overall I thought the show was really good. I like how it didn't take itself too seriously and still had the classic Star Trek action stuff. The cast was put together well and the writing is great. The only problem I had was the song. I can't see watching through that song every week. I also didn't like how the Klingon was running away. Don't they fight? Yes, he used a tricky tactic to beat the other two guys, but he had a weapon. Oh well.
Still very good. Can't wait for the next episode.

Enjoyed the show.
I thought this ship was much more "antique" than the newer shows. Lack of advanced scanners, grappling hooks, not very strong shields (lack of energy bubble shielding), Cramped quarters, much like on a sub or present day shuttles, stairs, lack of repulsor lifts and many other small details.
I am glad they have a linguist on the ship, as this was one aspect that always bothered me about all of the Star Trek series, the lack of a language barrier. Voyager was really bad as how can a computer learn a language without being first programmed with the language in some form.
The shower/decontamination scene. What can I say pure eye candy. Didn't mind one bit. However, maybe it was also used to show the "paranoia" of "earthlings" being scared of catching something out in the great beyond, as well as show some tension between Vulcans and Humans and the two specific characters involved. Alot could come out of this one scene. But on the "surface" it looked goooood.
The main bad guy has to be Romulan. They don't like anybody.

not very strong shields
They mentioned polarized plating a few times; maybe they don't have shields at all.
I didn't find the title song objectionable.
As for the last-second beam-out, I figured they would do that once they left Archer behind. And it actually reminded me of Galaxy Quest....

Well I'm way late to this party ...
I just want to state that I was really worried about this series feeling like Star Trek.
I'm not worried any longer ... This was "Trek", pure and simple!
At last, we have a series based on a Starship Enterprise back on the air!
May it Live Long and Prosper!!

'Enterpise' warps to top; 'Law & Order' opens strong
Sep. 27, 2001
It was a successful takeoff for UPN's new "Star Trek" series "Enterprise." The two-hour premiere of the show, which stars Scott Bakula, lifted the network to No. 1 from 8-10 p.m. Wednesday, averaging a 9.1 rating/13 share in the metered markets and beating its nearest competitor, CBS (7.9/12) by 15%. As the bulk of the returning scripted series returned from hiatus Wednesday, the once -fierce competitors NBC's "Lost" and CBS' "The Amazing Race," whose launch kicked off the unofficial start of the season, were left out of competition. The big winners Wednesday night were the season premieres of NBC's "Law & Order" and ABC's "My Wife & Kids." Veteran "Law & Order" at 10 p.m. (20.7 million, 7.5/20) was by far the best performer for the night in both total viewers and the demo. The sophomore comedy "My Wife & Kids" (12.4 million, 5.5/15) won its 8-9 p.m. time slot among adults 18-49, the second best marks for the night, with demo numbers peaking at 6.2/16 in the second half-hour. NBC won the night in total viewers (13.5 million), followed by ABC (11.1 million), CBS (9.7 million) and Fox (7.6 million). In the demo race, ABC (4.9/13) squeaked past NBC (4.8/12). Fox was third (4.0/10), followed by CBS (3.4/9). (Nellie Andreeva

I read somewhere that the Andorrans (sp?) will be making an appearance on a future "Enterprise". I wonder if the Vulcans have told Earthlings about their nasty cousins, the Romulans?

Peter I also read that Andorians will make an appearance.
As far as Romulans go - we all remember that their link to the Vulcans was first revealed on the TOS episode - Balance of Terror - don't we?????
So any such revelation on Enterprise would be a major faux pas.

Lou, I am with others that have posted on here. I think that Berman will be writing as if TOS never existed. Romulans, Klingons, transporters, oh my! I have similar gripes as others such as the theme song (did it remind anyone else of the theme from "Greatest American Hero?"), stupid decontamination scene (I mean, in the day and age of internet, you can get the pictures you want of that lady without having to drag the rest of us along for the ride), and most of all, the rush to introduce ALL of the previous series' staples: Klingons, Vulcans, transporters, universal translators, phasers (stun/kill), and I'll eat my hat if that villian isn't a Romulan. Jeez. Already they are working on "more of the same" and they are barely out of the gate. Spread it out a little. Savor the first time uses/introductions.
As for incidental music...after the limp theme song, the rest was basically the same stuff from TNG. What up with that? Even if a sucky theme, be bold and use different music throughout! If they are going to use a rock song, they should use "Space Oddity" and be done with it.
I did like the yokel engineer. He even had "the look" of the 60's show, in some ways. His relationship to Bakula was cool and I like that old relationships along with new conflict.
Over all, not bad, but still not what I would have hoped for. I sincerely hope they give some decent writers the job to carry this forward. Here's crossing my fingers that this "time travel" mystery is a ruse, otherwise we will have guest appearances of "current" crews or worse, The Rock.
But boy oh boy did the Buffy stuff look cool (oops, wrong thread).

I don't think it will be the Vulcans as said in the last post. Spoiler:I do think that it may have been a Romulan communicating to the Saluban from the future though. Possibly in an attempt to break up the Human/Vulcan alliance as well as start civil war on Kronos.

Richard, great perception on your part. I thought the figure spoke and looked, however much in shadow like either a renegade Vulcan or a Romulan.
I hope for great stories and interesting characters on this series, even if it means changing some of the timeline. If they can bring Spock back from the dead, anything is possible and should be considered.

The voice gave it away (unless some other villian wanted to make it seem like it was who I think it was). It was IMHO the male Vulcan ambassador who will probably turn out to be [gasp!] a Romulan. Really mysterious writing.

Braga and Berman need to get booted out of Hollywood and fast!!
Oh, and too bad Enterprise didn't wind up as an HBO or ShowTime late night series because T'Pol would definitely be disrobing completely and more often.

I have a question about the helmsman. He was born or lived on a space freighter and because of this he is referred to as a "Boomer". What did the commander mean by that?
Thanks for any help.

I really liked the first Enterprise..
They did a really good job of showing "what it was like" before Kirk and Spock..
If you look hard enough the nacelles (engines) on the Enterprise are circular, not rectangular like after Kirk and Spock..
Opening music isn't really good..
It's like Puff Daddy or something :)
That shower scene was pretty good, but that plus some bad lingo might not appeal to Mother's and they're children..
Because it was the first one, the network probably slacked off a bit on that.
I Loved it!

My local UPN station is owned by a methodist church... imagine how they cringe when there are scenes like this on UPN. Isn't WWF Smackdown on UPN too? (I don't know, I don't watch it.)

I liked it. But then again, I am a Star Trek sucker. I liked all the series.
"Shower" scene - The scene did not play well for me. When the characters faces are shown, they seem to be arguing. If you ignore their faces and voices, it played out like a soft porn scene. I agree that it seems like the writers were trying to show that there were no physical attraction between these two but I got confused by watching the scene. It sure looked good though. :)
Did any of you also noticed Archer's "trust the wind" flashback scene? At the end of it when he and his dad are kneeling on the sand looking at the model starship, young archer looked to his right and there was T'Pol on the beach too. Since Vulcans have longer life spans, does this mean that Archer has known T'Pol pretty much all his life? Their behavior does not see to convey this. Is there more to this? Am I reading too much into T'Pol's presence in Archer's past?

Christian,
I noticed the appearence in the flashback, though most of my friends missed it. Not too sure what it means, if anything, so we'll have to see what plays out.
cheers!

It was a fine straight-forward episode. Not so grand as the opening TNG or Voyager, but maybe that's good. I was annoyed with the sketches of the Enterprises in history in Archer's quarters. It showed the Shuttle enterprise in space, when it clearly was and will never go in space. At least in Star Trek The Motion Picture, the images of the Enterprises, showed the Shuttle landing on the ground and not in space, which is accurate to the approach/landing tests it did. The ironic thing is that if the trekkies/trekkers did not do the massive letter writing campaign, Enterprise would have been given to a working shuttle and not the test vehicle, but the campaign made them bump it up to the first one, which eventually would not fly in space due to technical constraints. It will spend the rest of its life in the Smithsonian when the Air and Space annex is finished.
At least they got the uniform colors right, Archer was wearing gold trim, not red like Tucker.
