With this avalanche of quality titles I think I need to get a second job for the next 6 months. ;)

Count me in for both. Considering that these are coming from Sony, I'm reasonably confident that they'll do right by them.

Now that's more like it. I would have given my precious bodily fluids willingly to get better titles than 10-year-old chick flicks.

Well, you guys can thank me for Taxi Driver, because I finally caved and picked up the new SD SE last month...

Oh well, I'm in for both. I'm way beyond double-dipping when it comes to Kubrick & Scorsese.

Dunno if you're being sarcastic here, but Sony has been superlative with their new transfers with the exception of a very few 2006 releases. Unlike other studios, they've been extremely dedicated to the source with everything from "20 Million Miles to Earth" to "Casino Royale" and beyond. Along with Disney, they're top-tier PQ all the way.

If you've noticed all the talk about DNR and EE on classic titles, you'll see little to no mention of Sony as an antagonist.

All true. And they´ve some good "Euro-titles" also in Blu-ray (latest is "The Counterfeiters"), which is great. It´s not all about "Transformers" and "Jamesbonds". ;) I guess the name "Sony" is the main reason why certain group of people kinda "forget" their high quality (all studios have mediocre titles, though).

That means two things to me:

Sony deserves kudos for that.

It makes the DNR and EE laid on by other studios that much more inexcusable.

Probably not going to bother with Dr. Strangelove for the moment, but count me in on Taxi Driver. Sure, it'd be the third purchase on DVD/BD, but I have two copies of the LD as well (goddamn player doesn't like the commentary track for some reason - on both discs! separate artwork, probably pressings, but no joy... random rant over).

I'm not asking what has been done in the past too other titles.
I'm asking have either of these two proposed titles been remaster for HD release?
Or, are they just going too used transfers that were used for the last SD DVD's?
Thanks.

Well, usually studios have one "remastered" source (2K, 4K, something like that I guess - I´m no expert). From that one source:

*576 PAL SD DVD
*480 NTSC SD DVD
*1080p HD

I believe both titles were "remastered" for the new DVD-releases, so I assume that HD-releases are using the same "master".

A poster on dvdtalk mention this, re: the 2-disc Special Edition that was released a few years ago:

1. @38:09 - In the scene where the Russian ambassador is caught with the camera in the war room: after the line "That's a damn lie. I saw him with my own eyes." In the next line: "Mister >>[Amb...leman]

I just don't get Taxi Driver. Is it good? Maybe but the narrative is so, jumpy, for me. De Niro is bored so he dates a woman, turns her off, so he follows her around while trying to save a young prostitute, but then decides he wants to be a sociopath instead. Huh? Hmmm, I like Scorsese more than I did when I was young but Taxi Driver just doesn't do it for me.

Dr. Strangelove, in my top ten, so hell yes, I will get. Next to my 2001.
