I see that there is a release of Dr. Jekyll
& Mr. Hyde coming from Warner on July 23.
But no detals as yet as to which version this is.
Hopefully it's either the Fredric March or Spencer
Tracy version. But probably it's something else.

What Warner is releasing (thru Rhino) is an hour long episode of CLIMAX!, an anthology series from the 50s. This DR. JEKYLL AND MR HYDE show stars Michael Rennie and was issued previously on VHS by Goodtimes. It's worth picking up in my opinion, especially considering the low price.

Well, that's good news for sure. I'll definitely
be picking this one up. I had it and "Casino
Royale" on VHS some time ago. Climax! did a good
job of adapting these. Just hope they cut out
the commercials. The VHS versions left them
intact.

Okay, this makes the tally as follows.
Jekyll & Hydes on DVD:
Barrymore (1920) on both Image & Kino
Rennie (1955)
Palance (1968)
Animated Version (1972)
Mary Reilly (1996)

Apart from the musical with Kirk Douglas and the
Michael Caine TV movie, this leaves us with the
March & Tracy versions and the PBS miniseries from
1981.

The 1931 version probably needs considerable restoration.

However, the Tracy/Bergman version is in great condition. The TCM print is nitrate, plus without a lot of artifacts.

You missed one title in your Jekyll & Hyde tally:
Hammer Studios' DR. JEKYLL & SISTER HYDE (1971-British), released on Region 1 DVD thru Anchor Bay in late 2001.

Its not out on DVD but don't forget Hammer Studios' earlier effort THE TWO FACES OF DR. JEKYLL (1960) Directed by Terence Fisher with Christopher Lee. Also look for Oliver Reed in a very small part as a bouncer.
I hope Anchor Bay can get the rights to it someday.

I saw the Michael Caine Jekyll and Hyde in Walmart for $5. It was on a label I had never heard of and was unsure of the quality of the DVD.

I hadn't included Sister Hyde in the tally as it was
something of a twist variant on the tale but it is indeed
another version on DVD. Likewise for Daughter of Dr.
Jekyll. As the Caine version is also on DVD and
we even have the Broadway play, this makes the absense of the March & Tracy films all that more glaring. Wouldn't
be surprised to see Abbott & Costello Meet J & H on DVD before either the March or Tracy versions.
The print of the 1931 Jekyll & Hyde on the MGM
laserdisc looks quite good considering the age of the
film, and a DVD transfer of that ought to look fairly
good, and it isn't of an aspect ratio for anamorphic
treatment.
Can't comment on the Tracy version as I've not seen that
for quite some time and the last time was on VHS.

One more for the list is 1971's "I, Monster" starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Though the names used in the movie were not Jekyll & Hyde, it is still based on the same Robert Louis Stephenson story.

Platinum Entertainment is the label that has released the 1990 JEKYLL AND HYDE with Michael Caine on DVD. I picked it up for $6.00 and it looks fine.

Does anyone know where I can order the Michael Caine Jekyll & Hyde online? I can't find it anywhere. I also would like the mini-series he did called Jack The Ripper on DVD but I can only find it in Region 2.

Let us not forget that cinematic masterpiece, Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde, starring Tim Daly and Sean Young. Also not (yet?) on DVD. (I doubt it's going to show up in any of the "Not on DVD" threads.)

Try checking Walmart, Suncoast or Wherehouse bargain bins for the JEKYLL AND HYDE disc. The Platinum discs seem to be everywhere, often for as little as $5.00.

August 27's going to be a big day for Jekyll & Hyde.
The Jack Palance version will be re-released as will the
John Barrtymore version for the umpteenth time. And joining
the ranks of DVD Jekylls & Hydes is... Anthony
Perkins in Edge of Sanity, also on the 27th. The March and Tracy films are all that more conspicuously
absent. Never thought I'd see Edge of Sanity
released before those.
By the way, did anyone catch the Fredric March version
on TCM on July 5th? How did it look?

The BBC, several years ago, screened a beautiful uncut print of the 1932 Fredric March version as part of their Forbidden Weekend season of classic controversial cinema.

The TCM print of the March film looks nice, but still suffers from a couple missing lines in places due to splicing, as was the case on the MGM laserdisc some years ago. I wonder if the BBC print had these lines restored? It should be simple enough to do, since they're intact in the censored version of movie.

The March version is such a treat and one of the best and smartest horror films ever made. I have been waiting and waiting for a nice DVD of the film since I bought my player some years back.

Yeah, the Mamoulian/March version is terrific. Maybe my favorite pure horror film from the classic period (KONG is my fave', but it's as much adventure as horror). Would LOVE a DVD of this! This film is so technically above Univ.'s DRACULA it's hard to believe it was made a scant year or so later...
