I talked to a salesman at a local electronics store and I asked him why they didn't carry any Sanyo DVD players, and he said it's because they have reliability issues and they had to be dropped. Is this true? or was the salesman just trying to push the Sony on me

Sanyo makes poor quality products in general. The Sony DVD player is not too bad. There are better players on the market. The Denon, Kenwood, Pioneer Elite some of the Sony units are good. It depends on what you are willing to spend and what you can afford. I have a Pioneer DVD that is ok. Sanyo and Fisher are basically the same company! I would read articles and check them out in the store. I would also make sure it does DVD-A (DVD-Audio). And if you are really into sound mybe check into a DVD player that supports Super CD audio.
