Per Outpost Gallifrey, It was successful enough that the various BBC stations were actually fighting over who gets to air season 2 this year. BBC 2 got it.

Regarding Torchwood:

When I first read that it was the "adult" take on Doctor Who, I expected good, thought-out storylines that might go over the kids' heads. Instead we were delivered a series about an implausible "secret" organization, swearing inserted because they can, and everyone's bisexual with a new combo almost every week. Hell, one episode is about an alien who comes to Earth to inhabit human bodies so it can have sex with people because sex "tastes good". It's the sort of storyline you expect to see in a porn movie.
If you turn off your brain for 50 mins, it might be enjoyable in the sort of way that Plan 9 from Outer Space is enjoyable. The set-up for a good story is sometimes there, but is usually completely ruined by the execution.

Hated this episode. Don't have a show called Doctor Who if you aren't going to have him in it for more than five minutes. Also hated the one with the little girl after it. Horrible!

Sorry, I like Torchwood.

Can we agree on a compromise position?

Watch the first few episodes - some of you will like it, others will hate it. But don't dismiss it before trying it.

The one thing I do find annoying not only about Torchwood but about Dr Who and the Sarah Jane adventures:

This isn't meant to sound like a moralistic rant, but couldn't we have at least the occasional successful heterosexual relationship shown? I've no problem at all with showing gay relationships, adultery, kids from broken homes, etc. However, contrary to what script writers might think, the majority of people come from backgrounds with still-married parents and have stable heterosexual relationships. I find it a bit wearisome working out which atypical type of relationship will be either the principal or background theme of this week's show.

Before the episode was aired in the UK, the producers said in an interview that the episode would be either loved or hated by the fans. I personally loved it (however, I'm biased - my mother was the writer's first English teacher), and I liked the general theme that ran through the last series of examining what happens to people affected by the Doctor.

The episode with the little girl was very very weak, I agree.

Well, even though im in the range of about 20 shows right now, I decided to give Doctor Who a chance.

I watched the pilot, which I wasn't too kean on.
But I watched the second episode "The End of the World" and it was much better.

I'm not a Doctor Who fan at all, but love time travel sci-fi stuff, like Quantum Leap and Sliders and such.

I've heard Doctor Who gets better in season 2.

But for right now I'm enjoying it!(so make that 21 shows im watching right now!)..I need to play massive Doctor Who marathon, in order to get to season 3 right now:)

I just finished three more episodes, "Aliens of London" "World War Three" and "Dalek".
While I didn't care much for Aliens and War 3, I really liked Dalek!!

I've done alot of searching but coming up with different answers..
How do you CORRECTLY pronounce Dalek?

Did anyone catch the new ep that showed on BBC Sat?

I really love the new companion. She has her shit together and I love how she puts the Doctor in his place.

I have to give him mad props for rhyming Raxacoricofallapatoria AND the Mighty Jagrafess of the Holy Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe.

(Hell, I have to give him props for SAYING Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe, much less rhymin' it)

I just finished three more episodes, "Aliens of London" "World War Three" and "Dalek".

I didnt mind AoL/WWIII, mostly because I liked the B-Story in the episode. In the classic series, very, very rarely did we get to see what happened to people who go whizzing off to the stars with the Doctor. Here, we get to see what happened to the people behind, and it's very effective.

It also supports the general theme of series one - cause and effect. This is the start of that theme, but we see it play out MUCH later towards the end, right around Boomtown and the final two parter.

(That and I love the Money Shot of the Big Ben crash. That's one of those iconic moments for the series.)

I just finished the entire season 2 and watched the first episode of Season 3.

I'm really enjoying this series. I'm just about to watch S3 Episode 2 & 3 to be fully caught up.
I'm also really getting into the new companion Martha Jones.
