if i didnt have a job last year? i guess i completely forgot about my taxes before filing my fafsa (for student aid). so if i didnt have a job, do i have to file? should i still file? thanks.

If you earned less then $6,000 on a W2 last year, you are not obligated to file taxes. (however, if you earned that little or less on a W2, you're smart to file, as you'll get basically 100% of what you paid in back)

with the earned income tax credit, you could even get back some of what i paid in.

You say you didn't have a job. Did you have other income? Unemployment is taxable income now. It also makes a difference if you were claimed as a dependent by someone else. Were you?
