DIVX is Dead Day 5th Anniversary (1 Viewer)

I see a lot of fan-edits for download on the web listed as "DiVX" or whatever, how is that related (if at all) to CC's DIVX?

Divx is now the name of a codec for on-line video- it was given the name (with a variation of capitalized letters) sort of as a joke. Now it just makes it all the more difficult to find stuff about the pay-per-view disc format, since searches bring up more mentions of the codec than the former.

Making it even more confusing is that there are now DVD players that can play online Divx files burned to disc, again they have nothing to do with Circuit City's dead "feature". Gotta say once again though that the "new Divx's" Stage 6 site is really cool though- the quality is a lot better than the more popular video sites and for most people it's also the easiest to download and play if you have a compatible player.
