Polanski's made some top-notch movies, but isn't someone I think of when the term "great director" is thrown around. Not that anxious to see anything else by him.

    ROMAN POLANSKI

Chinatown is one of my all time favourites, and I think it stands head and shoulders above the rest. I've seen a lot more of these than I'm listing, but I don't remember a great deal about most of them, so it wouldn't be fair to rank them. These ones I remember.

    Chinatown (1974)

    The Pianist (2002)

    Knife in the Water (1962)

    Rosemary's Baby (1968)

    ROMAN POLANSKI

    The Pianist (2002) - [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Tess (1979) - [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Chinatown (1974) - [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Rosemary's Baby (1968) - [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Ranking: (I never expected to have him bat 1000...)
    1. Rosemary's Baby - Insanely brilliant horror film that demonstrates effective horror is all about DREAD
    2. The Pianist - Serious film about the horrors of WWII on the Jews, we're not allowed to dislike these right? On its own, though, a very powerful portraiture.
    3. Chinatown - What the hell? oh well, it works.
    4. Tess - Damn good female melodrama that doesn't pull any punches and is quite damning of the treatment of women (instead of suggesting its the best thing for the weaker sex, ie: Stella Dallas)
