Wow this is embarrassing, I've only seen two Welles-directed films. I remember seeing a bit of The Magnificent Ambersons before I changed the channel.:D

[holds hand up] Jim, when are we getting to the true greats like John Carpenter, Ridley Scott, Oliver Stone and Brian DePalma? I'm getting fidgety. Let's have some action, gore and profanity Jimbo! ;)

I've been saving the "big guns" for later on, Stevo. ;)

Since you requested it, I'll bump 'em up in the rotation. :D

A "B" is still a good movie that I like, I just wouldn't rank it as highly as Welles' other films.

While I'm normally a fan of Chuck Heston, I don't think he was the right choice for Touch of Evil, so that takes the film down a notch. Then I take it down another notch for its ridiculous ending. Normally I have a huge capacity for suspension of disbelief, I don't see plot holes where others do, etc. But occassionally something will strike me as so beyond the pale that it mars the film.

In Touch of Evil it would be Heston conducting surveillance on Welles, but having his surveillance device turned up so loudly that Welles can hear that he is being eavesdropped upon.

14.The Hearts of Age (1934) **

Welles is one of my 12 favorite directors and, as you can see, I've only to catch up with 1 of his movies, F FOR FAKE (1973) - unless those notorious uncompleted projects - DON QUIXOTE, THE DEEP, THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND - start cropping up! I know that the Jess Franco reconstruction of DON QUIXOTE is available on DVD in Spain but, knowing Franco's work, I hardly think he does it justice so I stayed away from it...:).
