I'll Do Anything (1994) :star::star: - It's bizarre to watch a movie and constantly have the feeling it is about to break into song.

I don't own any, but I wouldn't mind having Broadcast News.

"Never, never, interrupt me, okay? Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint. Even then, don't come knocking. Or, if it's election night, and you're excited and you wanna celebrate because some fudgepacker that you date has been elected the first queer president of the United States and he's going to have you down to Camp David, and you want someone to share the moment with. Even then, don't knock. Not on this door. Not for ANY reason. Do you get me, sweetheart?"

Seen the above, in order of preference. (Somehow, I thought he'd made more films.)

In order of merit:

1.As Good as It Gets (1997) ***
2.Terms of Endearment (1983) ***

One is a good, enjoyable character-driven comedy; the other is a good, character-driven weepie; both are vastly overrated, however, and they hardly deserved all the Oscar accolades showered upon them.

I'm confused: 3 of the 5 movies that James L. Brooks directed received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Terms of Endearment won Best Picture, Brooks won a Best Director Oscar for his efforts on that film and his track record as a producer of both TV and movies is the stuff of legend. How exactly does he qualify as "Overlooked and Obscure?"
