Hi all Does Direct not work with Sourrand Sound?
I have a RCA guide plus television (not hdtv)
Sony S-Master Didigal amplifier sourrand sound.
It works fine as a DVD player but with direct tv only one wall mount speaker and the base amp. works.we have tried everything the manual says. We thought it might be that Direct TV don"t have sourrand sound. Please help if.I called Direct there not any help so I come to the pro"s. Thank You Danny

What model DirecTV receiver do you have? Is the DVR in addition to the receiver, or is it a DirecTV DVR?

To get true surround sound, you need to hook your directv receiver to your AVR with digital cable, either coaxial digital or digital optical. You then have to go into the directv receiver's menu and activate dolby digital.

If you don't use the digital audio connection, you can get simulated surround sound if your receiver supports dolby pro logic or dts neo or another simulated surround sound. For this, you only need the red/white stereo cables.

In addition, not all shows are broadcast in surround sound. Most but not all of the hd programming is. Other than that, you mostly get true surround sound occasionally on the premium movie channels.

    Which specific model?

I have the DVR R10 which is a Tivo unit. I have the sound connected with the digital (optical) cable, and it works just fine in surround.

Are you using the Optical cable, or the White & Red RCA Jack cables?

Yes I read it but don"t understand.I just called local direct tv here and he says that Sony S Master will not work with it. wants $100.00 to come out and check it. We are on disability and can"t afford that. Seems like Sony S master should work I just bought it new from Wal Mart. Do I need to take it back? Danny
