Well, I was just pointing out that there wasn't anything overtly objectionable in it. After that, there's the question of whether Darkness Falls does anything to scare the audience - which I don't feel it does; it's the worst, least effective movie I've seen all year.

Yeah, the comments about me letting my 2 year old watching the movie with me are questionable. I'm just going to say one last thing about it. Each kid is different. Some kids are way more sensitive. My 6 year old for example is way more sensitive. I couldn't of let him watch with me at 2 years old.

My daughter however, likes scary stuff. She makes us walk her down our pitch black hallway at night with her to fight "monsters". She is just that kind of kid. That is why I paused the movie 20 times to check her reaction and make sure she was ok. She was fine. Since then there is no mention of the movie from her. Plus, the movie was PG-13, I knew there wouldnt be blood and guts or porn in it for her to see.

Anyway, I would highly recommend buying the movie even if you didnt like it.... just so you could pop it in and show off your system at night. I guaranteed 8 out of 10 guests will be spooked with the sound mix.

Just watched this last night. Going into it, my expectations were pretty low. Man, if there's anything that really makes this movie worth checking out, it's the sound mix! While I don't know if this is officially a DD-EX mix, the center surround in my system really got a workout without the rear soundstage collapsing. There were times when the tooth fairy's moans and shrieks were circling the room. The result was very unnerving and really added to the atmosphere and mood of the movie.

This is a movie that practically screams for having your TV properly adjusted, since much of it takes place in shadows and darkness. Luckily, I had my set ISF'd recently, and I was very impressed by how much I was able to make out in the really dark scenes. Particularly, those scenes where the tooth fairy is hanging above a door or moving just slightly in the shadows. The shadow detail is pretty good, especially considering they crammed foolscreen and widescreen transfers on the disc. Not a reference disc for video by any means, but definitely one that will exhibit obscured details if your set's black level is too low.

I do think they could've done more with the concept, because the back story of the tooth fairy is very intriguing... but still, this is a pretty decent (albeit too short IMHO) popcorn horror flick. Thanks to an excellent sound mix, this movie put me more on the edge of my seat than any recent horror film (though The Ring and Below are both contenders). This one's at least worth a rental, but I recommend a purchase if only for the sound.

MTV scares?

it's an Australian movie otherwise - the accents were annoying, as in trying to sound American!

the score and end credits song sounded cool.

video is pretty decent.

sound is passable.

entertaining, scary (my body froze twice), but not original.

thin on plot, and formulaic.

rent it!

The opening scenes with the young kid first:

seeing the tooth fairly and watching his mother get killed

were very effective and really creepy. Loved the opening intro as well. Too bad the movie went completely downhill from there and nosedived into utter cliched crap (my opinion of course;)).

It does have a great opening sequence though and the sound mix is to die for.

Whats shocked me most about this movie is that for such a short movie it has 10 minutes and 40 seconds of end credits. Jeez they're almost as long as the movie itself!

I finished watching this movie.
While it's not great, it's not that bad either.

I still think it's worth a purchase for an occasional Halloween viewing and the first 10 mins or so for a nice demo.

I really didn't care for the final end scene.

Man what a fantastic sound mix to this movie!! :emoji_thumbsup:
The sound was absolutely out of this world. The sound designers did an excellent job with this one. Which I believe was Thomlinson and crew from Skywalker sound.

I'd have to say this DD soundtrack is up there with the best of em. Great bass and excellent dynamics!!

The sound on this horror film really adds to the creep factor to it. I can't imagine this one sounding any better. It makes me wonder if even a Superbit on this one would make a difference with the DTS track. And I prefer DTS anyday over DD, but after hearing this one, LOOK OUT DTS!
It's that good!:emoji_thumbsup:

Play it and have fun!!

The movie had a couple of scenes that scared the holy bejezzus out of me & has one of the best sound mixes i've experienced in a while. If you have a preemo h. t. system, I wholeheartedly recommend that you purchase this as a reference quality dvd. The Sound quality rivals the DTS mix of "The Brotherhood of The Wolf" IMHO:emoji_thumbsup:

In the beginning of the movie when the tooth fairy makes that real long screech of hers before the scene was over, did yall think that your speaker system was going to blow up? LOL:laugh: Talk about a LOUD soundtrack! This one blew me away in terms of it's dynamics and deep, clean, tight bass! This one will rival even the best DTS tracks! And that's coming from a guy who absolutely swears by DTS.
Question:
If Sony/Columbia would ever release this one as a Superbit, just by chance, what are yall's thoughts on if the DTS track could even improve upon this already reference track?? Honestly, I don't see how. But would love to find out

I thought the movie was just OK - maybe 6.5/10 overall. But the DD mix was spectacular, with great surround efects and I agree that matrix mode works wonders with the rear surround(s) for those of you running 6.1/7.1 rigs.

But the BASS - we watched at -9 (Reference Level being 00 with Avia), with the sub calibrated about 4 dB hot, and when the cop drives through the buildng wall with his Blazer,
holy crap I must have hit 114-115 dB; I thought the house was going to COLLAPSE!!

Well going by the comments here I guess this should be a really scary movie. It has yet to be screen here in Singapore. But I should love the audio mix.

Got a glimpse of the trailer from the XXX DVD and I must agree the audio mix rocks. Can wait for the DVD to come over
here.:D

Am I wrong in thinking that on the front of the box it says that it is scarier then the Ring?

I am sorry, but I cannot say a good thing about this film. I found it to be horribly predictable. While I understand the concept of fantasy and am a great fan of surrealism, there were so many contradictions through the film that I stopped questioning rationality at all by the end. However, toward the end of the movie you could tell from dialog and bad acting which character was going to die next. The end followed the same worn formula that so many "horror" and action films have been following since the early 90's. It truly seems that most new horror films are being made by dispassionate directors that will make a film of any genre to get a chance at their first big break. I am a big horror fan (especially Romero and Argento), and it sincerely breaks my heart to see a movie like this joining the rest of the garbage polluting my favorite genre. I found the audio mix to be mediocre, but scores above the thin plot. I really don't mean to offend anybody since everybody has different tastes and interests, but I would not recommend this movie to anyone. I respect the positive reviews of this film, though I certainly do not agree with them. My opinion is to leave this one on the shelf and go for a better modern horror/fantasy film like Ginger Snaps or Donnie Darko. Those are just my two cents, and like I said before, I really don't want to offend anyone.

:) and sorry to be so long winded:)

I rented this movie based solely on the title of this thread that I happened by.

Now I admit I dont watch as many movies as most people here but that was absolutly the worst piece of crap that has ever spun through my DVD player.

The dialog was straight out of a MST3K film, the plot implausable beyond belief, and let me brake it to you...if you need loud crashing sounds to let me know when the scene is supposed to scare me, ITS NOT SCARY!
Terrible, terrible, terrible.

This was an awesome sound track. Unfortunately that's all it had going for it. There's a difference between suspending disbelief and letting the filmmakers get away with wholesale ludicrousness.

I did like the surround sound, however. Especially when the screen went totally dark (while watching in the dark) and the sounds of the Tooth Fairy filled the room. :emoji_thumbsup:
