I decided to stick with my D70 instead of going to the D200. The upgrade would have cost me around $1,000 and I felt the money could be better spent -- so I spent it! I got the following:
SB-800 Speedlight flash ($330)
Tokina 12-24mm wide angle lens ($450)
Lowepro Rover AW2 backpack ($120)
The D200 would have given me the following benefits over the D70:
10 MP vs. 6 MP
More rugged build (magnesium, weather seals)
Slightly better ergonomics (easier to change certain controls on-camera instead of via menus)
However, I would have had to give up:
1/500-sec. flash sync
Wireless remote (unless I wanted to spend more money)
$1,000
At this stage in my learning curve, I think my pictures will show more improvement with the external flash and another lens.
