I'm looking forward to this, one of my all-time favorite releases. The film was not only hilarious, but when I saw it in High School it made some subtle and not-too-subtle points that shaped my attitude and personality for the rest of my life. A real winner on all counts, and a great performance from Pryor, as well as the Great One. And let's not forget "Master Bates", too. [IMG] Another terrific Richard Donner film. Y'know, if they can just release Radio Flyer then I think that will make all of Donner's big films out on DVD, won't it?

Add me to the list of those thrilled to finally be able to have this on DVD!
I loved it when I was a kid, and it'll be great to see it again. (It's been a while)

Are we talking about THE TOY here? The one where a rich millionaire buys a black man for his spoiled son?
Haha, JK. I'm not a real big fan of this one to be honest, but I'm always happy to see people get the movies they love on DVD.
Perhaps Donner agrees with me, as I notice he won't be recording a commentary track like he did for Superman, The Omen and The Goonies.
    "It's U.S....not you ass!"

Yes, it's the one where the rich guy buys the black man for his son.
It's not about that, it's about the character development they all go through before the end of the movie. Not U.S. Bates (Gleason's character) as much as the other two, especially the boy.
As I said, it woke up a few things in me. That's why I appreciate it so.
I don't think Donner was advocating that we all run out and purchase humans or anything! [IMG]

To clarify for people who have not seen the film, Gleason does not "buy" Pryor. He hires him.
Anyway, I shall buy this film as it was a real childhood joy for me.
BTW, can anyone explain CTHV's odd policy of having several trailers on a DVD but NOT a trailer for the movie itself?

The Toy is one of my "guilty pleasure" movies. I'll be getting this. I was so embarrassed to have the vhs when I was a kid, that I hid it when friends came over. Who knows why kids are so afraid of being embarrassed?
