David Fincher's Box-Office Smash is First Title Ever
    to Debut in Superbit(tm) DVD
    __________________________________________________ ___________________

Culver City, Calif. (July 8, 2002) - Columbia TriStar Home
Entertainment will release the $95-million-grossing thriller PANIC ROOM
on Superbit(tm) DVD as well as videocassette on Sept. 17 - marking the
first use of the ultra-high-fidelity format for the DVD debut of a
    recent theatrical release.
Richard Roeper of Ebert & Roeper called PANIC ROOM "one of
the most ingenious and entertaining thrillers I've seen in a long time"
and audiences agreed, leading director David Fincher's ("Fight Club")
intense, claustrophobic thriller to the top of the box-office charts.
Making the home-entertainment debut of PANIC ROOM even more
special is the use of the revolutionary Superbit technology for the DVD
    release. Superbit utilizes a special high-bit-rate digital-encoding
process that optimizes video quality and offers a choice of DTS and
Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. By reallocating space on a DVD that is normally
used for added-value content, Superbit DVDs can be encoded at double the
normal bit rate. The result: picture quality that provides outstanding
detail that complements the performance of the latest progressive DVD
    video players.
In PANIC ROOM, double Oscar-winning actress Foster ("The
Silence of the Lambs," "The Accused") stars as newly divorced Meg
Altman, who moves into a multi-level New York brownstone with her young
daughter, Sarah (film newcomer Kristin Stewart). One of the key selling
points is a small, technologically sophisticated "safe" room the
previous owner installed in case of a dire emergency.
Neither Meg nor Sarah know that they'll need to use the PANIC
ROOM sooner than they imagine. During the first night in the house, a
villainous gang of thugs -- played by Jared Leto ("Requiem for a
Dream"), Forest Whitaker ("The Crying Game") and Dwight Yoakam ("Sling
Blade") -- breaks into the house, searching for something they believe
the previous owner left behind. Meg and Sarah endure an unforgettably
suspenseful night of terror as they try to fend off the thieves from
inside the confines of the PANIC ROOM.
PANIC ROOM: A Columbia Pictures Presentation of a
Hofflund/Polone Production. Produced by Gavin Polone, Judy Hofflund,
David Koepp, Cean Chafin. Written by David Koepp. Directed by David
    Fincher.

The Digital Bits has hinted that there may be a 2-disc version released in the near future.

    Hmm... which one to buy?

My preference is for a 2-disc SE version. I guess I'll wait & see. If the SE doesn't occur I can always buy the Super Bit later.

I'm buying the Superbit because I know i'm getting the best and superior quality. As evidence for every superbit, they are all superior in the sound and video department. Thus why whould i buy the SE if the Sound and picture were inferior???

Okay, this is totally catering towards the video/audiophiles as they're not even including 5.1 track in Dolby Digital, only DTS.

In addition, they're only including 2 language subtitles rather than the 7 or so they normally do on Superbit.

Looks like I won't be renting this one. I only have DD and won't be able to buy a new amp for quite a while. Too bad.

Brian, Superbit releases carry DTS AND Dolby Digital tracks.

Commentaries have been done, I'm going to wait for the SE.

Question I have, is that if this only has DTS 5.1 and a dolby surround track, will it be a true superbit and have full bitrate DTS?
