BBC released a Blu-ray of A Room with a View in 2007. It is OOP but available if one looks hard for it.

That is still owned by Sony. A limited number of their productions are still owned by the majors - besides this title, MGM hasTHE WILD PARTY, Miramax has MR. AND MRS. BRIDGE, Disney has JEFFERSON IN PARIS, and Lionsgate has THE GOLDEN BOWL. Those will likely stay with those studios for now.

Yes, Maurice was on DVD. I don't think it's available on blu-ray, not even in the U.K.

Well obviously now we won't ever get Maurice on BD from Criterion, but our best hope is from the UK by Film 4, who put out A Room with a View region-free on Blu and currently have Maurice only on DVD.

I'm not a lawyer; nor do I play one TV, but I think M/I really shot themselves in the foot severing their relationship with Criterion. I cannot imagine another production house treating M/I properties with such obvious love and respect. Maurice has been one of my treasured films for decades, and even if it isn't BD, it's a spectacular transfer.

Let's hope that these two great creative organizations can come back to the table, renegotiate and settle to everyone's advantage, most especially ours, the film-buying public - IMO....

Something must have changed, because Criterion has just released A Room With A View on Blu Ray (release date: Tuesday, September 20, 2015)

And hopefully Maurice, which has never seen the light of day on Blu Ray.

Merchant-Ivory doesn't own A Room with a View, so I wouldn't assume anything has changed.

Well, whoever owns it has licensed a new Blu Ray release, because it being released tomorrow (I actually got it today). The issue is, who owns Maurice and Howards End? Remains of the Day saw a Blu Ray limited release from Twilight Times, so someone licensed that one. Howards End went OOP a while back, but luckily, I got a copy of it. Merchant Ivory must have owned something, because they sued Janus in 2012 and terminated any further distribution of any of their films through that company (and Criterion).

Who now owns the rights to HOWARDS END? Next year is an anniversary year so I would expect a new release.

Nobody does. Its currently controlled by Merchant Ivory's creditors who have no video contract with anybody.
