Do promo' boxes count? If they do, check out these two that Fox sent out to promote Minority Report.
The first one is a bit like a tabacco tin, similar to ones that have been used for limited edition CDs, and so on.
This second one, though, is a monster! It's not much bigger, but it's made of solid metal, and weighs about two and a half pounds! The two halves are bolted together, and you take off the top like you'd open a jar!
Just curious does the Indy set fit into that binder and how do the transfers compare with region 1? I haven't bought this set yet and that definately looks cool. thanks
Oh, now that's just depressing. But definitely a good reason to either get the Japanese set or wait until a (hopefully) uncut US edition shows up. UnREAL! They really thought we couldn't handle that much cartoon blood?!?!?
Mwahahah... I was gonna get the Kill Bill set, but I'm gonna wait it out to see if R1 gets it. I'll probably just end up getting the regular version of the R2 to hold me over... because that looks sweeeet
This is truly an un-f$%#-ing-believable thread! When this thread first started I was pretty sure that this would degenerate into having a "give me a proper transfer over fancy packaging anytime" tone. Instead it has become an absolute droolfest wherein even films I don't particularly care for now look like must-haves just for the amazing packages!
I have a few questions though:
1) I'm pretty sure that most if not all of the American films here would still have the original English language tracks for the movies but what about the special features? Are there any cases wherein the special features/movies can't be heard/read in English?
2) Which websites are the best ones to go to to purchase these super deluxe editions? (For those who have actually ordered, were you satisfied with the service?)
3) For the Terminator Trilogy in Peter's thread: Where is that available? I thought The Terminator franchise had their films done at different studios hence the lack of a box set, how was that circumvented? (Surely it's not a bootleg?)
Thanks to everyone for posting these amazing images of the different DVD packaging for other regions. Man, I see that even movie like the "Medallion" gets an special edition tin packaging.
My favorites so far is the Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hero box set, Battle Royale II tin set, Roman Holiday box and the cool cover for Casino. By the way, is Casino a special edition DVD in other regions? We at least need a SE DVD in region 1.
In terms of the best DVD packaging in Region 1 for 2004, my vote goes to the Freaks and Geeks Limited Edition yearbook. This is how a special edition must be done as the packaging is in every way relevant to the original source (which is the show).
All I have to say, and it has been said before is man r1 sucks......... We need some cool looking sets! Here is an idea for the LOTR.. All three movies extened editions in a leather type book, with loooooots of maps, pictures, etc..................R3 will probably get it..lol I also dig the dances with wolves..that is pretty cool looking
