I have to write a Paper on Conic Sections and I’m not really sure how to derive or solve an equation. I know that if you take a plane and run it through a Cone then you come out with a Hyperbola, Parabola, Eclipse, or a Circle. That’s about as far as my knowledge on this topic goes. Could anyone be of some help on explaining how to derive and solve the equation?
I would like to thank anyone who helps ahead of time. It is much appreciated.

Andrew,
Check this site out:
Link Removed
There is a multimedia, (shockwave), tutorial covering the subject.
Cheers,
S.

Scott: Thank you for that link. However, it doesn’t really explain how to derive or solve an equation. Unless I missed something.

Don't forget you can also create a line or a point by intersecting a cone with a plane.
