The Land Before Time (1988)
IMDB lists the OAR as 1.75:1. The DVD is 1.33:1. Note, this is for the original theatrical feature, not all the direct-to-video sequels.

Ok, I just reread this entire mess and compared it with my notes, and then IMDB (which I know is subject to errors).

1. I'm still confused about Star Trek VI. I know this was brought up before somewhere, and the box does say widescreen, so I'm assuming that the difference is too small to notice, right?

2. Tank (1984) Goodtimes Box is marked 1.33:1 IMDB lists it at 1.85:1

3. Lovesick (1977) WB Box is marked formatted to fit your screen. IMDB is blank.

4. It Takes Two (1995) WB Box is marked formated to fit your screen IMDB is 1.85:1.

5. Leave it to Beaver 1997 I thought this was a MAR also, but don't have it, and IMDB is blank.

I'm not sure I want to add five more, but these weren't mentioned, I think.

Star Trek VI was a 2.35 movie opened up to 1.78 for DVD, IIRC.

The Goofy Movie is only available in 1.33, but IIRC, this was originally going to be a DTV release, so this may be correct. Anyoen know? Also, I was wondering what the deal is with The Fox and the Hound. It's only available in 1.33:1, but I was wondering if this was an open matte on a P&S.

Nicolas Roeg's Insignificance (1985) was just released by Artisan on DVD with a 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Is it an open-matte or pan scan transfer?

Artisan's disc of Mountains of the Moon (1989) says it's "fullscreen"-only.

I haven't watched the Artisan disc myself: I have the older Pioneer disc, which preserves the 1.85:1 aspect ratio of the theatrical release.

The Long Walk Home, a well-acted drama starring Sissy Spacek and Whoopi Goldberg which takes place during the Montgomery bus boycott, was issued by Artisan "fullscreen"; it should be 1.85:1

IMDB.com says Sword In The Stone is 1.75:1....my DVD is 1.33:1 and it says on the back of the box that it has been formatted to fit my screen. What's the story with this? I would assume this is not being presented in the correct aspect ratio? I'm confused why Disney did this. I see that there was a discussion about this title on the first page of this thread but I couldn't tell if there was an ending to it. I've owned it for quite some time now and believed it to be in the OAR until looking at this thread and at the back of the box...

Especially egregious since the OAR is 2.35:1.

Columbia / Tristar's R1 release of "Me Without You" is 1:85, OAR is 2:35. (It was apparently released 2:35 in R2.)

There's a couple of instances of noticeable Pan & Scanning, and a couple of still shots are "squished" to fit.

What about MGM/UA's The Night of the Hunter (1955)? It has the "formatted" warning on it and IMDB claims an original OAR of 1.85:1 (the DVD is 1.33:1).

One I know for sure is an MAR is Warner's Cats Don't Dance. Although no aspect ratio information is available on IMDb, the 1.33:1 transfer is so obviously panned and scanned that the OAR has to be at least 1.85:1.
BTW, The Great Muppet Caper is listed on IMDb as 1.85:1, so the current version on DVD is correct.

For the Re-Opening of the site, I would like to take the time to update this list. Since John no longer has the time to do this, he has given me permission to start a new thread. This is based on a conversation we had several months ago, so if his posistion on this has changed, he may contact me.

- Stanley Kubrick films are not listed. I [John Berggren] am one who wants them in their original theatrical aspect ratio, but this is a controversial subject even here based on his apparent preference. If you think I should include them, let me know.
- Disney titles framed at 1.66 are not included. The reason is that the animators painted the cells in this ratio, but the films were matted in the theaters.
- 1.37:1 films framed at 1.33:1 are not listed.
- 1.66:1 films framed at 1.78:1 are not listed.
- If there is a current Studio and Manufacturer feedback thread, or petition about a film listed here, or you make one, I will modify the title to link to that thread or petition
- If you've already posted a film for listing and remember another, create a new post. I can only guarantee that I'll read any given post once.

Is it possible to contact the studios for DVD replacements with the right OAR? Like contact disney for it?
