Having just rewatched this one again, I love that Buzz is the new person added to the cast, yet he's the only one who breaks "character" to actually vocalize that this event is making them do truly horrible things to each other when he rescues Britta. It's so old-hat to the rest of the study group by now that they don't even notice it.

"As soon as this game is over, I'm pushing you back!"

"Come out now, and there will be no need for nudging, or jostling!"

I think we can securely say the six periods aspect of the process is looking good. So long as they keep those figures, NBC won't terminate them. It's the traditional submitting increase.

I'd say at the very least a short 6th season would be a lock, just as schedule filler in case one of the new puppies fails (Community is becoming NBC's Rules of Engagement). Best case we might get another full 24 episode season. The biggest factor is the gain that veteran series get from syndication exposure. People sampling the reruns for the first time then begin to tune in for the new episodes.

Very funny gags about Game Of Thrones. Especially Duncan's comment about the incest being done just right.

The subtitles on Abed and Britta's sign language was pretty good too.

The Annie and Hickey story was a good pairing of characters that you wouldn't expect to see together but it made for a funny story. Maybe it's just a lot of good will from Breaking Bad but I think Jonathan Banks is great on this show. As a fan of wrinkly faced character actors, seeing Banks and Robert Patrick do a scene together was awesome.

It was nice to see Robert Patrick, Nathan Fillion and Brie Larson.

Yet another episode that had a lot of good laughs for me. This season has been refreshing.

I have to ask but was there a John Hughes vibe to the last few minutes of the show during the Fat Dog midterms dance? It sure felt like it.

And the end credits with John Oliver had me rolling. "Press 4 for Marigold"

I'm sure it had to do with schedules and how much filming they could get in, but I'd have liked to see more from all of the guests in this one. Unlike Jonathan Banks' role, the others tonight reminded me of how poorly season 3 used its guests.
Edit: And by that I mean that it might have made more sense to not cram them all in one episode where there wasn't time for any memorable thing by any of them.

That. Was. Incredible.

Season 5's perfect streak continues. Fillion's wordless, dashed pornhopes in the montage were worth bringing him in for all by themselves. Kind of sad that Chang never got to cross paths with his same-sex celebrity crush, though. My favorite line of the episode:

"What kind of labyrinth have you created? Certainly not the kind with puppets and macho rock-stars."
-- Dean Pelton

Also:

"Can we unstick whatever's up your butt later?? " I love it when Annie talks dirty. And:

"Well, that got Sorkin-y!"

If this is what Harmon produces when he gets a year off to seethe, I'd be okay with putting off Season 6 until 2016, and just letting Harmon think he got fired again.

Shit, almost forgot to mention:

Did anyone else catch the newsfeed during the musical montage?

"LeVar Burton and non-celebrity captured by pirates off the coast of..."
I noticed that myself too and would absolutely love to see that episode. :D

Also caught that Abed and the coat check girl were watching what looked like the pilot episode of Rick and Morty, which amused me a bit as well.

Annie's "EV-ERY-THING!!!" was amazing. They need to find a way to work in "I WILL FIND HIM!!!"

During the Fat Dog Dance, all I kept thinking of was "Pussy on the Chainwax!" from Key & Peele, which did a similar, "Oh, that's tooooootally a phrase people use!"-thing.

I've often thought of the "EVERYONE!!!" scene from The Professional

to describe the habits of co-workers to ask for everything they can conceive of needing because they don't have the inclination to actually plan.

But now there's this amazing, much more suitable version...with Brie no less!

Heh, yeah...that's exactly the very first thing that shot into my mind too, when I heard Annie say that.

Duncan and Shirley's little high-five after telling Annie that "Fat Dog" is a thing, and that there is a Wikipedia page to prove it, was priceless. Britta telling Abed they can "Fat Dog it out" was funny, too.

The Olympics have taken this, Parks, Archer, and Rick & Morty off the air for weeks to come. I don't know whether this or the Holodomor is the worst thing Russia has ever done.

...Time to rewatch Deadwood again.

Finally -- brand-new episode tonight. A synopsis:

"Bondage and Beta Male Sexuality":

Jeff helps Duncan romance Britta; Britta runs into some old anarchist friends, and discovers they've moved on; Abed accidentally destroys some of Hickey's drawings; Chang has a supernatural experience.
Duncan macking on Britta? I'm already there. Having so much John Oliver this year is like my favorite pizza place surprising me with a bonus gram of coke and a $10,000-a-night call-girl.

"I would raise goats, hoard cinnamon, and only travel at night."

Another one of those melancholy episodes that only Harmon & Co. could pull off. Banks is such a great addition. I love how they're pairing him up with another cast member each week. Especially love someone finally refusing to humor Abed's psychoses. I think Hickey may be funnier than Pierce was at his best.

"Oh, here we go! 'Love isn't a game,' say the guys that always win. And now, you want to go pull a Dane Cook in one of those three movies he was in about Dane Cook getting laid by accident. Only, it's not a Dane Cook movie, Jeff, because this time, someone's watching. Me. Your friend. British Jason Biggs."

...I mean, holy shit.
