I'm thinking of getting these. are there new editions coming out?, or should I just go ahead?..
Go ahead. Kevin Smith has said that he'd like to redo the Clerks DVD, but that he probably wouldn't be able to get to it for another few years. The presentation, as well as the extras, on both of these DVDs is great.
Be sure to listen to the commentary tracks.
The mega-Clerks set will probably be released in 2003. The View Askew folks have been joking about wanting to take advantage of the 9th anniversary milestone. I was going to wait for that release, personally, until Buena Vista repriced the current version to $19.99 MSRP last week and I got if for $15 at Best Buy.
Mallrats is probably as good as it will ever be on DVD, so unless you want to hold out hoping for a future price-drop, it is a safe buy.
Actually, a tenth anniversary DVD for Clerks is due sometime in 2004.
Since Clerks is selling right now for around $15.00, its worth it to get it now and enjoy it for a year or so.
Mallrats...might as well just buy it. I doubt Universal Home Video wants to do anything spectacular with it unless they want an open-matte version for sale.
Right now, there's a kevin smith three-pack for sale, which includes Clerks, Mallrats, and Criterions Chasing Amy, which I consider to the best of the bunch. Futureshop has it on sale for $54.99 canadian for the pack.
I bought the three pack for $49.99CDN at Futureshop last week.
You guys might want to note that the "Jersey Trilogy" set is a Canadian exclusive thanks to Alliance Home Video.
It is not available in the U.S.
GET THESE DISCS!!! YOU NEED THEM!! Okay, Im done. Get Chasing Amy too! And Dogma! And Clerks:Uncersored! And Jay and Silent Bob Strike back!
mallrats is stil my favorite
A few people said something about a 2004 10th anniversary clerks disc, but I wouldn't hold out for it. I'd expect this about the same time as the "Die Hard in a Mall" TPB (although they finally got the Bluntman and Chronic one out). Of the 2 discs though, you'll not get anything more on Mallrats-it's already one of the more stacked discs out there. As for Clerks, this is the one that could do with a resiiue the most-especially since the original commentary waas done with just one mic being passed around. Still interesting though. I'd second (or third) the purchase of the 3 pack-much cheaper than individual (especially given Criterion prices up here)...
Kevin Smith already posted at Viewaskew.com that a Clerks 10th Anniversary DVD is in the works for 2004.
I think that Chris meant that one should go ahead and pick up the version available instead of waiting. I don't think he intended to question the possibility of the anniversary coming eventually.
Maybe I'm wrong.
Yeah, the new Clerks DVD is coming in 2004, its supposed to have like 4hrs of behind the scenes footage or something.
I just watched Mallrats again a couple of minutes ago.
I can definitely recommend this disc.
I do own and love all other Kevin Smith DVDs as well except for Clerks. It's really hard for me not not to break down and buy the disc but I just don't support non-anamorphic. But 2004 is still a long ways off...
I don't think Clerks COULD look any better than this non anamorphic DVD. Have any of you guys actually seen Clerks? It is a disgusting black and white 16mm film
(one of my favorite comedies of all time too ).
There is no 10th anniversary disc in the works for a 2004 release. There is, however, a 9th anniversary disc in the works for a 2003 release.
It doesn't matter whether there is a deluxe version in the works or not. Anything can happen with that...you never know.
For the price that Clerks is now,it is a must buy. One of the funniest movies ever. End of story!
