A friend was nice enough to give me an old 35mm Goldberg film reel (a take off reel) that I plan to hang on the wall. (I've got some old trailers that I can put on there, then loop some film around on the wall.)

My question: does anyone have any advice on cleaning the reel? It's, I believe, cast aluminum and mostly unpainted and uncoated. (I say "mostly" because there is some old red coloring around the lettering in the center.)

I'm not looking for this to shine (I want it to stay authentic), but if I can remove a little of the years of tarnish, why not?

Thanks!

(P.S. Whatever works on aluminum cookware will probably work here as well.)

I used Cameo Aluminum & Stainless Steel Cleaner on mine before putting my Reel Tables together. My wife suggested it and it worked great. It's very similiar to Comet/Ajax/Boraxo.
