IMDB.com shows that Paramount has the current distribution rights and that, in my opinion, is a very good thing as, among the major studios, they have the best track record for releasing vintage TV series on DVD. Republic Pictures did release a number of episodes on VHS over a decade ago (and Amazon marketplace sellers are fetching some good money for some of the tapes), so there is commercial viability for the series and, of course, there's "The Munsters" connection in the form of Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis. I don't know whether Paramount would do full seasons or go the "Best Of" route like they did for "The Phil Silvers Show," but this series is certainly worthwhile of some form of DVD release. And thank goodness Sony doesn't own it . . . if Sony ever released it, it would be in a colorized version.

The website where I saw the info.videoeta.com has listed it as the complete first season. The fact that this is a Paramount studios title. means Then that it really could be coming soon.Maybe the fine folks at TSOD might know something.

With only two seasons and 60 episodes of Car 54, season sets would seem viable and actually makes more sense than a best of collection. Let's hope Paramount does release season sets.

Come to think of it, why not just release both seasons in a single set? I'd guess that most of the people who would buy "Car 54 Where Are You?" would want both seasons as opposed to just buying season 1 or season 2. Then again, MGM/Fox is releasing "The Addams Family," another two season show, in three volumes! Go figure . . .

Here's a nice tribute/fan web site for the series: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/csmiths/index.html

There's a holdup in the Bronx,
Brooklyn's broken out in fights.
There's a traffic jam in Harlem,
That's backed up to Jackson Heights.
There's a scout troop short a child,
Krushchev's due at Idlewild......
CAR 54, WHERE ARE YOU???!!!

A true classic.

I seem to remember an episode about a drunk that was truly hilarious. I'll buy it if they give us both seasons.

Interesting that even this limited series sporned a motion picture, which I understand was pretty bad.

It is finally coming! A company called Shanachie Entertainment is apparently releasing it early in 2011. Someone even posted pictures of the 35 negatives that they are working with:

Cool. Shanachie put out the entire "Abbott and Costello Show" TV series a few years back and did a pretty good job with it. So if this pans out we should be able to expect a nice set.

Gary "sounds great" O.

Upon looking at the pictures, it seems that the episodes in the boxes are arranged in production order. "A Man is not an Ox" and "Hail to the Chief" were the 31st and 32nd recorded episodes respectively, but aired on 9/30/62 and 9/16/62 respectively.

The shows' episode guide on tv.com has the production numbers for 40 of the 60 episodes.

This is great news and surprising news at the same time. I had always hoped this would make it out on DVD, but I had serious doubts. And if they are working from the original negatives, we should get a great looking, and hopefully uncut, set. You can bet I'm in for this one.

As Gunther Toody would say, "Oo-Oo"! This is great news. "Car 54" has been on my DVD wish list for a long time. Can't wait!

Great news. "Car 54" is one of the most underrated comedies of all time. My mother and I used to watch the Nick at Nite repeats religiously in the late 1980s. Let's hope that company does it justice.
