Can't get sound from home theater system on tv channels (1 Viewer)

I have a SHARP TV model #910868799 and a SONY Blu-ray/DVD Home theater system. I can get surround sound while watching bluraysn or dvds but not when I try to watch regular channels. I don't have cable or satellite I use the digital receiver inside the tv. Please help.

A good model number for the TV would help.
And a model number of your BD system...as Sony has made probably 100 different ones...and of course, they all have the same exact connections...so there is never a reason to buy version number 98 over version 2.

Thank you for your response. After doing more reading we figured out that that TV didn't seem to have ARC so we switched TVs. Worked perfectly. Thank you again
