I've reached the opinion that trying to differentiate between SD, ED, and HD is hopeless, as there are so many resolutions in use, and standard and non-standard format resolutions that trying to group things into three even loose categories is confusing, and so I tend to prefer to only talk about the resolution capabilities, and ignore whatever marketing labels may be in use. And even then, resolution can get hazy especially with CRT displays.
