It was quite a disappointment to find this in my mailbox today, nearly a full month after being mailed.
You can't see it all, thanks to the sticker, but I can assure you I proofread that sucker before letting it go.
Did anyone else get one back, or could this be a fluke?
If there's another address to use, or if this is still confirmed to be correct, I'll be more than happy to send it again.

Yup. Got mine returned as well.

Really pissed off that nobody at Sony wanted to
accept the mail. It went to the correct address and
I confirmed it with someone at the studio.

A couple of weeks ago, I got an email from Bill Hunt of The Digital Bits on this, and he said that Sony told him that 1776 is still coming.
He says that he will try to find out more about it.

Bill may be basing that response on old information.

We all thought 1776 was still a "go." I actually did not
find out otherwise until I contacted the studio directly.

I will try and find out if the title is back on track or not
and get back to all of you.

Got mine back yesterday. I went back to the thread to make sure I addressed it correctly and I did, so the letter is here ready to send back if they will accept it. I was pissed off too.

Oh the irony!
About two years ago I posted a link here to a poll at another blu ray forum, which was read and approved by a senior sony executive. If enough people voted for particular sony titles, they would have been fast tracked for reviewing a potential BD release.
Ron decided to block the link, as he didnt like people going offsite to another forum!
Had he have allowed it, HTF 1776 fans could have voted and potentially allready had it in their hands by now.
What goes around, comes around...

Mark,

I think what you just posted was very unfair and most
likely untruthful.

I don't remember the post in question.

If what you are saying is true, I would need to know the
manner in which that post was being promoted on this
forum. We have had more than our share of individuals
in the past coming here from other forums in an attempt
to drive people to content via links.

I say this, because if it were an effort to get 1776 out
on Blu-ray, I don't believe I would have personally stopped
such efforts even if it were linked elsewhere.

But be that as it may....

Getting this film released to Blu-ray has been a top priority
for me for the past few years. I have personally been in
contact with people associated with the studio and who
might be involved in any potential project.

Fact of the matter is, 1776 was on fast-track for Blu-ray
release. It didn't go to the backburner because there was
a waning of interest. The market changed. Now studios are
taking harder a harder look at potential classic film releases
than ever before.

I don't appreciate the "What goes around comes around"
comment -- particularly for the fact that you have no idea
how much personal effort I have put into getting this film out
on Blu-ray. I think based on the conversations I have had
with people associated with the project, I have a better grasp
on why this film is not yet out (some of which I have just explained),
and I can assure you it has nothing to do with HTF *allegedly*
pulling a link for a poll elsewhere.

EDIT

Just did some research on this issue.

Indeed, you did post something here on HTF and it got pulled.
You posted a poll over on Blu-ray.com and put a simple link on
our site asking our members to go over there and vote.

It was a unanimous decision by the HTF moderating team
to pull that post. It was felt that you could have just as easily
posted the poll here on HTF rather than advertise it on another site.

You were also alerted that a Sony Insider was lurking on our site
and that your efforts to get the title released via a poll would be
better served here than on BD.COM

Here was your very own response to that:

Ron, no disrespect was intended.
The poll idea came up because a Sony insider who resides on blu-ray.com agreed that it would be a good idea and i actioned it.
I'm not aware of any specific Sony insider at the HTF, although i'm sure they do lurk! I thought that HTF readers may have liked to contribute.
Obviously it would have potentially doubled up on respondents to run two polls concurrently. If this is still an issue then fair enough, it's a shame as you could vote for one of your fave's, 1776!

So don't turn this around on me because you suddenly feel you
need someone to blame. What happened between the response
above and the scathing accusation you just posted?

Hi Ron, i'm afraid it was the truth.
Here is the thread http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/297199/vote-for-the-sony-classics-you-want-on-bd
As you can see, in my reply to your removing the link I even specifically mentioned 1776.

Mark,

If you read my edit above (posted seconds before your latest response)
you will see that I already took the time to research this out and offer you
an explanation.

I and the moderating team still stand by our actions.

Good luck guys. I seem to recall a poll by Sony on what Harryhausen release people wanted, and the winner "Mysterious Island" was handed over to Twilight Time (3000 copies and a $35 + shipping & handling). Ergo, I just passed and watch my SD version. Hopefully your campaign will be successful for "1776".

Sony doesn't announce titles until 2 months before street date, they'll probably keep quiet until early May when a July 4th release is announced, otherwise they miss the 40th anniversary and the 4th of July - there really is no better time to release this film over the next five years

I guess we will just have to wait and see, May's just around the corner

Ron, just to briefly respond to your points, as originally said 2 years ago there was little point in running 2 polls on two sites when the objective was to get members fave films released, not to increase traffic to an already succesfully site. As for the htf having a sony insider, he didnt respond to the thread at the time, nor do i know who he is.
I also dont need someone to blame, just pointing out that every action has a reaction. As for what i've done in the meantime, given that was the response I originally got, without explantion, why would i try again at the HTF - after being a loyal member for 10 yrs, it certainly changed my view and reduced my number of visits.

Greg, I can tell you that the title is still on "hold." That information
was given to me yesterday.

There will be no release of 1776 this year, sadly.

Very, very disappointing!
