About Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs:
Celebrated as an entertainment landmark for over 70 years, the first full-length animated film ever made, and still the ‘fairest of them all,” Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ world premiere represented a major milestone for the world of animation, a giant leap forward for The Walt Disney Company. It is one of the most beloved and most watched films in history. As one of the first films ever to be designated for preservation by the Library of Congress, it has been entertaining movie-goers and critics alike for decades. It is also the first film ever to have a motion picture soundtrack, as well as the first film that uses music to advance the story. To date, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been released theatrically a total of nine times.

    Synopsis:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the time-honored story of a beautiful princess whose blossoming beauty disturbs her stepmother the Queen. Each day the Queen asks a mysterious magic mirror the quintessential question: "mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all." As long as the mirror answers the Queen's name, all is well. However, when one day the mirror replies with Snow White’s name, the evil Queen begins her quest to kill the young girl, so she may once again be "the fairest of them all."

Snow White’s escape from the evil Queen's plan leads her deep into the forest and to a small cottage where she meets, in one of the most famous scenes in motion picture history, the Seven Dwarfs. Once "off to work" they go, the wicked Queen persuades Snow White to take a bite of a poisonous apple that places a powerful sleeping curse on the young beauty. Heartbroken, the dwarfs make a glass coffin for their friend, because she is too beautiful to bury. Only when a handsome Prince -- who had previously fallen in love with Snow White -- finds her and kisses her, does she awaken, "to live happily ever after."

The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Blu-ray™ + DVD Combo Pack is priced at $39.99 SRP and the 2-Disc DVD set is priced at $29.99 SRP.

Unlike the last release, we get NO MONO track on the new one.
Disney has the following fsound in their vault - composite original mono track, Some mono music only tracks and a foreign music and effects track. Hardly enough for 2.0 or 5.1 but what the hell are they going to do with 7.1 - not a damn thing, just make it worse.

Interesting that they think the announcement of the the two DVDs (Blu-ray & SD) is more important than what the extras are on the release. I don't give seven dwarfs about the two dvd's, I just am wishing for the one true announcement of the extras.

Yes , I wonder just when Disney will releasing the long awaited list of exclusive Blu Ray Extras , for the October 6th 2009 release of the first full length Techicolor/Sound animated movie , and of course , the Fairest Of Them All Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs Platinum Edition Blu Ray?

I for one cannot wait for Snow White to arrive on Blu Ray disc , it's my all time favourite Disney animated motion picture !!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Today is the 6th of May , just 6 months to go and still no Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Blu Ray Extras Press Release !! Why? [IMG]

I am really looking forward to seeing exactly what will be on the Blu Ray Making Of Documentary. A good friend of mine BBC Broadcaster Brian Sibley ,went to New York in March to record a series of interviews about Snow White , along with John Canemaker and several other Disney animation historians/Disney animators etc , all to be used in the Blu Ray Making Of Snow White documentary!

I'm a bit confused about the releases for this movie.

    There'll be a Blu-Ray + DVD combo pack. Then a 2-disc DVD release.

But some of the artwork shows an alternate reversed DVD + Blu-ray combo pack.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (US - DVD R1 | BD RA) in News > Releases at DVDActive

This appears to be perhaps a 2-disc DVD version in a regular sized keepcase that includes the Blu-ray as well. The art is actually better since the Blu-ray cover art makes no sense. Why would the dwarfs look so happy at seeing the old hag?

I doubt they'll match or exceed the original DVD in terms of extras. I'll have to see the complete list of supplements and compare, but I highly doubt it. And did they do another restoration?

Of course there has been a new restoration of Snow White otherwise the Blu Ray would look very shoddy!

Disney Store has a list of features :

    Bonus Features:

    Disney View
    Snow White Returns Storyboards
    Audio Commentary with Walt Disney

Princess and the Frog Sneak Peek

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall Game

    What Do You See Game

    Jewel Jumble Game

    Scene Stealer Activity

    Hyperion Studios

The One That Started It All- featurette (Walt’s Vision of a sequel)

All New Music Video, Someday My Prince Will Come by Sonny with a Chance Star Tiffany Thornton

Also includes bonus features from original DVD release

    Tech Specs:
    Presentation: Fullscreen
    Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Sound: Digital 7.1 English DTS-HD Mastersound
    Subtitled: Spanish, French
    Dubbed: Spanish, French
    Closed Captions: Yes
    Running time: 84 minutes
For Region A use (Americas, East and Southeast Asia, U.S. territories, Bermuda) only

However as I have posted before my friend Brian Sibley flew to New York earlier this year to film a whole series of interviews for the Snow White Blu Ray release, along with many other well known Disney contributors ( John Canemaker amongst several others ) !!

The original Extras free Press Release regarding the date of the long anticipated Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs Blu Ray hitting the street seven weeks earlier than the DVD , mentioned that this would become the definitive release of Snow White.

Not if the previous restoration was done in 2K or something similar.

Hm those extras don't exactly make me salivate. Unless the transfer is vastly improved, I doubt this will be worth it.

I simply cannot see Disney NOT doing a new restoration for the Hi Definition Blu Ray of their signature production Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs !!!

It simply does not make sense to just re-hash the previous eight year old 2001 DVD remastered version as 1080 TV will show up every tiny flaw!

My guess is they will go back to the SE negative in the same way they did for Pinocchio and Sleeping Beauty. There are some minor flaws with Pinocchio, but on the whole it is a gorgeous disc on both BD and SD DVD.

Just in case there's somebody from Disney out there reading these, I'll repeat here what I have already posted on DVD Active:

Seriously, cover artwork for this release is truly dreadful!

I understand Disney's "all-ages", family approach (although why they think they have to be so awfully ugly is quite beyond me), but since it's quite clear for all involved that there's also a strong consumer segment of grown-up animation lovers buying their discs, I really think they should consider providing some kind of limited edition (as in print number, not price hike) for those of us who do not need the cover to be all-colorful and shiny-happy, using classic, vintage images like these:

    http://www.isntlifeterrible.com/uplo...ter-740341.jpg

    http://cinemadreamer.files.wordpress...ven_dwarfs.jpg

They are already offering separate releases just to acommodate those who prefer the DVD packaging and those who prefer the blu-ray packaging, so I guess adding another one would not be that much of a stretch, and it would be an easy way to make many of their customers much happier.

Yes , when you think of the glorious and really quite beautiful animation pencil drawings that one can buy from Animation Art Galleries from anything from $750.00 up to $6500.00 , and the Cover Art Abortions just produced in the name of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs!! How can a creative company like Disney with so many great artists working for them produce such execrable art work?

I was asking that myself. It's nice that every cover sort of fits together, but it really doesn't need to. It gets boring after a while too.
I'd like that they used some of the 'adult' posters for the 90's Classics. Those looked beautiful. And let's face it, kids want to buy it regardless of the art on the covers. So why don't make anything that the adults and collectors like?
