Yeah, but are they using the same cleaned-up prints (with the proper, original UK openings) as released by Network Video in the UK?

If they don't use the Network-restored prints, I'm afraid it'd be a definite no-sale for me.

    Andy,

Probably they will use the restored prints as this restoration of the
print has been made for Carlton/Granada for dvd and broadcasting.

I think A&E is pricing this WAY too high. I bought the UK/R2 box set containing all 43 episodes for $100 a while back from Amazon UK; and they want $100 retail for just the first 13?

Sorry, it is $80 retail, and Amazon US is selling it for $59.95. That's better, and more in line. It is still a much better deal to buy the R2 complete set, though, if you are region free. Amazon UK's current price is 62.97 GBP ($116.46 US).

R1 is still a good deal, each episode is 65 minutes so it's definitely worth it, every cent. Donna Mills, Paul Burke, Robert Powell, Richard Johnson, and the late Alexandra Hay (below) are among the guest stars in S1. Mills guest star in two later episodes, as well.
Subsequent seasons have stars like, Helen Mirren (in an amazing performance), Bradford Dillman (two episodes), Hayley Mills, Jenny Agutter, Jeremy Brett, Bob Hoskins, Pamela Franklin (two episodes), Robyn Millan, Andrea Marcovicci, Denholm Elliott, Gary Collins (three episodes), and many more. I can't wait!

If I didn't pay that much for Night Gallery, then I'm not paying that much for this. I'll have to wait until a used set pops up. How do they expect to get all the seasons out when they charge so much for a series that's not that well known anymore? If Night Gallery didn't sell enough at that price to release the other 2 seasons, then I can't imagine this will.

I think you're exaggerating a bit, the price is acceptable if a little high, but you're getting your cents' worth. Break the price down into ten, then you're not really paying that much for ten excellent 65 minute episodes. All the appearing US stars alone should be enough to sell it, if all Donna Mills fans buy it (and I'm sure they will and oughta) then that alone will be great.

"Night Gallery" is another story, you can't compare the situations here, A&E tend to follow through with 'planned' releases, Universal screw over its TV fans and leave them hanging. The "Thriller"s (under their US movie titles) are very well-remembered in America, don't play its importance down please. [IMG]

Truthfully, I'm on the fence about this. Yeah, it's worth the money, and so was Night Gallery, but it's still a bit high. I hope it does sell well, but it scares me that it won't at that price.

A&E's products always tend to be a bit on the pricey side, that's definitely true.

This set really worth the money. You have 10 episodes of a unique and
ultimate anthology series.Thriller has been a success worldwide and
it is super that A&E make the serie available on dvd here in North America.

Also A&E have taken great care for this set by offering bonus and
extras which are very interesting. Finally the picture quality will be
excellent as Thriller has had a restoration of all the 43 episodes of
the serie by BBC Ressources who are expert in this work.

Buy it! You will surely enjoy these episodes and will be asking for more
Thriller is a serie which deserve to be on dvd and people who will buy
the set will have the chance to see a serie which is the best tv serie
produced in the U.K in the 70s.

Aren't there a couple episodes that only survive in NTSC format?

I havae never seen this English series so I can't comment on it, but Brian Clemens (and Albert Fennell) did quite well with The Avengers. But like most classic TV series put out by A & E, this has never aired on the A & E Network here in the USA.

I'd much rather see the American early 1960s THRILLER series hosted by and occasionally starring Boris Karloff come to DVD though! That was a great 2 season show that is overlooked today.
