Pardon the intrusion, but I find it astonishing that Robert Wise's 1963 masterpiece (and arguably the best-ever such film made), The Haunting, has not been mentioned here. It is coming to DVD on August 5. It operates on the principle that it's what you don't see that scares you the most. And it's true.

Jack, I believe Erik G mentioned The Haunting. Myself I coulnd't stand Julie Harris in the movie, so I had a hard time enjoying it. I know a lot of people swear by this movie, maybe my expectations were too high when I first watched it.

I much prefer The Innocents, done 2 years before.

Okay, we have our 32. Since I wasn't going to start this until Monday, I'm going to add a list of eight wild cards (especially since there are still some good/decent ghost movies that didn't make it in). These will turn up in round three.

Two more noms for everyone, plus unlimited seconds and thirds. :)

Grave Secrets: The Legacy of Hilltop Drive was going to be one of my next noms, but now you have saved me the trouble, and I will gladly second it!

I also second Mario Bava's best film, Lisa and the Devil.

I nominate Bava's The Whip and the Body.
