Well, it started filming last week, and I thought I would share images of the announced Bond girls - always a pleasure.

Gemma Arterton:

I believe Gemma is the "smaller" of the Bond girls.

Olga Kurylenko:

Of the recent Hitman. You couldn't pay me to watch that, but as few shots of Olga in the trailer almost convinced me. I have no idea if she can act (as Green definitely could), but Olga is as physically attractive as can be.

Maybe we'll get a title soon. I loved CR, one of my top films of 2006. Can't wait to see the follow-up. Hope it lives up to potential.

Hmmm. This'll be interesting because I felt Ms. Green/Vesper was about as perfect a Bond girl as they could get. I don't know if I can accept the idea of someone taking her place, even though there have been dozens of Bond girls before her. :D

The studio sent out a press release, which you can find here:
Press Release: 'Bond 22' Starts Production At Pinewood Studios, London - James Bond 007 - CommanderBond.net - James Bond At Its Best

Here's some character details:

It also appears that Miss Arterton will play a character named "Fields". I think I read somewhere (but didn't find any official confirmation) that she'll be an MI6 agent.

Regarding the title - I think I read somewhere that Daniel Craig made a comment in a television interview about it not having a title, more a number. Which would imply the film might be called "007".

But note this is just speculation based on vague memories of reports of an interview that I never saw.

It sounds like a real Ian Fleming Bond story title that's never been used before, which it is.

I've never read the Fleming books but based on the synopsis on Wikipedia I think this is going to be another "The Spy Who Loved Me" where little other than the title of the original story is utilized.

I've kind of grown used to it because there are only a handful of unused Fleming titles such as this, "Risico", "The Property of a Lady", "The Hildebrand Rarity" and "007 in New York" that have all been rumored to be eventually used as titles ever since "Casino Royale" went back to using Fleming titles for the first time since "The Living Daylights". I can't really see them using "007 in New York" (it's just not an interesting "Fleming-esque" title, it's very bland) but I wouldn't be surprised if the next three after this are those other three titles.

Meh. If true, I can't say it's a very good title. It's nice being what it is, but I don't think it'll sell a James Bond movie to a public that has no idea what it means.

Did people know what "Goldfinger" meant?

or "Thunderball"?

or "Moonraker"?

or "Octopussy"?

or "Goldeneye"?

A lot of the Bond titles would be otherwise terrible if not for the Bond connection. It's the kind of series that's sold on its main character, not its title.

I mean, is "Casino Royale" really a good title on its own? I don't think that many people would see a movie with that title if not for it being a Bond film. It's the kind of series where a quarter of people probably go up to the box office and ask for a ticket to see "James Bond".

Producers reveal title of new James Bond - CNN.com

The title was revealed to reporters Thursday at Pinewood Studios outside of London, where the movie is being filmed.

Daniel Craig is returning as Agent 007. He picks up where 2006's "Casino Royale" left off, with Bond contemplating revenge after his betrayal by his true love, Vesper Lynd.

Filming began at Pinewood Studios earlier this month. Location shooting is planned in Austria, Italy and Panama. Judi Dench returns as the MI-6 boss M and Mathieu Amalric ("The Diving Bell and the Butterfly") plays the villain.

"Quantum of Solace" is the title of the new James Bond film, the 22nd Bond adventure.

Additions to the cast include Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko as mysterious Bond girl Camille.

"Quantum of Solace" is due to open in Britain and the United States on November

Yea, but they're all cooler titles. Even Casino Royale is just cool to say. Quantum of Solace sounds like something on my science exam.

That's all true, but "Quantum of Solace" just doesn't roll off the tongue. The reaction I got from a few friends (without knowledge of what franchise it would be) was that it sounded too pretentious for a movie title.

I don't personally mind it (its better than "The Property of a Lady" which sounds like to Victorian costume drama). It just doesn't really have the ring of a Bond title, which is probably why it hasn't been used.

I remember reading the short story a long time ago. It seems silly to use the title, since it's not really a Bond adventure, just a lengthy anecdote about other people. They seem determined to keep the "Ian Fleming" connection, no matter how tenuous.

I think they like that fact that they can use two "o"s from the title to form the 007 logo like the Casino Royale logo did.
