If you're using Photoshop, the Surface Blur filter can take care of the compression blocks in areas of uniform colour, like the red on the door hanger.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a try. It also occurred to me I could swipe the characters from a higher resolution image and place them over that area. It helps there was a sequel. :)

I complained about the cover of "Beautiful Girls" a few weeks ago, and finally got around to doing something about it. I even made a cover with full front and back! ;)
But - I didn't have the commitment / patience to add all the legal language, MPAA rating and studio logos on the back. I guess in my alternate universe no one cares about stuff like intellectual property or parental advisory labels.
I finally found a high resolution image for the film, coming from a Spanish language poster. The original art is not great, but there weren't any alternatives.
Even though it was high resolution image, the fonts were riddled with compression artifacts, so I just replaced them all. I couldn't find an exact match for the movie title though, so I went with something similar.
For the back cover, I used a different quotation, slightly revised the technical specs, and used largely unmodified production photos (the most I did was add rounded corners and desaturate a touch). I'm not thrilled with the plot synopsis, but I wasn't in the mood to come up with something else.

Hi all.

Here's a recent commission that the client wants to share with you all. The Back to the Future trilogy in all its VHS glory!

As you can see there are two versions of III. The one with the all-yellow III in the logo is the one most authentic to the actual VHS cover and release posters of the time, but I just can't stand it and am offering a version where the Title Treatment matches the others as well.

PM me for download.

Now that they're all finished, I'm gathering them in one post. The client says it's okay to share with anyone who wants them, so just PM me and I'll set you up.

Let's just hope the films actually surface on Blu someday, but my motto about doing customs for non-existant films has always been "Build it, and they will come".

And we must forever be grateful for the existence of Jaws 4 because it prompted this immortal quote from Michael Caine: “I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.” Thus speaks a working actor :D

I took a little break from cover-cobbling today to cobble together a cover:
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, my favourite graphic novel.

I rarely do personal projects nowadays, but this 2-part release desperately needed a cover to unite them.

I'll be putting this up on CustoManiacs or you can PM me for a copy.

Here is an updated custom cover for Cyborg, corresponding to the specs of the US Blu-ray release.

This thread is amazing! Has anyone come across or made customs for the Die Hard films? I've been wanting one's that use the original poster art but all we've gotten lately are crap covers.

Uploaded some more multi-pack covers to my flickr stream. Space-saving is key for my storage needs, so anytime I can put sequels in with the original film in a slimmer case, I try to.
Wall Street & Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Westworld & Futureworld
Gremlins & Gremlins 2: The New Batch
The Magnificent Seven & Return of the Seven (ignoring the last two not-very-good sequels...)
The French Connection I & II
Universal Monsters Collection (character covers for original blu-ray + DVDs of their sequels )
James Bond 007 (5 volumes, including Never Say Never Again and '67 Casino Royale + DVDs with features not on blu-rays)
The Hustler & The Color Of Money
Poltergeist I & II (ignoring the awful III)
Back to the Future Trilogy
The Fugitive & U.S. Marshals
If there's anything there that is of use to you--and you can't download it from that site in a quality suitable to you--PM me and I'll email you the file.

Just spent a great time looking over this thread - however many many of the links have been broken by the forum move.... is there any place where people have covers collected to go browse at once? I assume it would be too huge a chore to go back and "fix" the whole thread...

Yes, I was prepared to go back and fix all the links to my artwork, but am prevented from doing so because the ability to edit one's posts is removed after a set period of time (I believe 48 hrs.) I find this highly objectionable for a number of reasons, and have petitioned the forum owners to rethink this practise.

It also makes me think twice about posting artwork here in the first place, knowing that I am blocked from removing it in the future, for whatever reason.

If anyone else would like to aid me in overturning this decision, you can add your voice to mine in the "Forum Feedback" area. Here's a link to my post: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/322593-request-for-the-edit-function-moratorium-to-be-lifted/

I would just like to inform everyone that the above matter is now closed and I am not pursuing it further.

Just finished Thor in this series, which will contain Iron Man 1 & 2, Incredible Hulk, Captain America and The Avengers. Again, my client intends to share these when they are all done.

I am having a lot of fun making these. I was contacted by the firm behind the original Reel Heroes designs, Hixville, who implied sinister motives and lack of creativity behind these lookalike covers, but that in no way diminishes my enjoyment.

Those are freakin' sweet! Some of these makes you slap your head and ask "why didn't the studio make something like that?" lol.

BTW, Fritz, when you get a moment I sent you a couple of PM's the other night about some of your artwork.

Here's the latest addition to the Reel Heroes series. I think this will be the only overlap with actually released covers. My client wanted a different pose than the officially released Incredible Hulk.

Okay, off-topic to be sure, but I wanted to show you guys a novelty item I did recently. My client made a modification to the Donkey Kong Atari 2600 cartridge to switch places between Mario and Pauline. Naturally he wanted a matching label for his new cartridge and I was only too happy to do it.

Here's the original and my revised version:

The just-completed, Reel Heroes-inspired Captain America. This is the penultimate Blu-ray cover in the Avengers Phase One series. Next up is The Avengers, but that is going to take some time to complete due to the number of characters involved.

And for those who came in late, these WILL be available to download once I finish the last cover and my client okays them.
