    Hey all.

This thread comes up from time to time on DVDtalk and usually draws quite a gathering. Haven't seen it in awhile, so I figure to start one up on HTF. Who's knows, consider it an experiment to see how fast the thread will end up on page 2 ...

Here are the rules. First and foremost, you must have a DVD collection online and with a link to participate. From there, take a look at the last poster in the thread and review their collection. As the name implies, then name the three best, three worst DVDs and the three most needed for the collection. Although highly subjective, it can often be insightful, especially to those with similar collections.

    Cheers

    OK, I'll play:

Best 3: Pulp Fiction, Seven Samurai, Boogie Nights (I can't pick all Kurosawa or Kubricks, so I'm picking a cross-section of really excellent films).

Worst 3: Con Air, Ghostbusters 2, Spies Like Us.

You need: Anyone who likes Japanese epics, or action films, actually owes it to themselves to try out Buster Keaton -- he's a gifted physical comedian using entire landscapes as a canvas for his imagination. Try "The General."

Also, anyone who enjoyed Pulp Fiction or Boogie Nights really must get some Martin Scorsese in his collection. I can't even tell you where to start, but "Mean Streets," "GoodFellas" or "Raging Bull" or "Taxi Driver" wouldn't be a bad place to begin.

Finally, anyone who enjoys "Spies Like Us" (only kidding, but not really) really must open his eyes and ears to the brilliant Preston Sturges, who made the most manic, literate, original comedies. Try "Sullivan's Travels," "The Lady Eve" and, if it ever comes out on DVD, my favorite, "The Palm Beach Story."

    Now, have at my collection.

Great idea...I've been wanting to participate in one of these but I also get on right behind some guy with a huge collection...

Okay, here goes (nothing personal of course, just my opinion):

    To Joe Fisher's Collection:

    Best Three:
    A Christmas Story
    LotR Collection
Goodfellas (for quality of movie, not DVD)

    Worst Three:
Armageddon (hated the movie, may be a great DVD)
    Batman Forever
    Batman Returns

    Need Three:
    Rashomon
Untouchables (when a better version comes out, but I see an interest in crime films)
Pulp Fiction (just a first rate film that everyone should own)

    Joe's Best:
Seven Samurai-In my opinion, the best movie ever made
    Goodfellas-My favorite movie ever made
    The Thing (1982)-My second favorite

    Joe's Worst:
Honestly, there's so many to choose from. How can the owner of Citizen Kane and Seven Samurai own:
    Under Seige 2,
Ghosts of Mars-You know, I love Carpenter too, but this is where I draw the line.
    and
3 Paul WS Anderson movies-Resident Evil, Soldier and Event Horizon.

    Joe Needs:
To pawn or ebay about 150 DVDs to save face.

Of course, I'm one to talk with some of mine.

    Have at me.

I hope it's obvious which ones belong to the wife.

    Dark Star
    House of the Dead

    Needed:
    Infernal Affairs
    21 Grams

it was hard to pick 3 best, you have some good films in there: Honorable mentions go to Audition, Naked Lunch Criterion, Shaolin Soccer, Hero, among others.

I feel I got some 'splainin' to do. The American Idol DVD is the wife's. Dark Star I own due to Carpenter loyalty. House of the Dead BECAUSE it's so bad. You can have one hell of a MST3K home session with that movie. By the way, you seem to be pretty into asian cinema, you should check out Ong Bak. BEST martial arts flick ever. I don't say that lightly, I take my MA films seriously. You can get a region 0 on ebay.

This is fun, I'm gonna post one for Chris:
    Best DVDs:
Fist of Legend:now the 2nd best MA movie of all time, you should look into getting the Ritek version though.
Lone Wolf and Cub movies:I'm holding off for the whole set, but they're great movies.
Run Lola Run:great movie, that many haven't seen

    Worst DVDs:
Once again, Paul WS Anderson, but worse. You own all his movies. I'm sorry.
    S1m0ne
xXx-I own it too if that makes you feel any better.

    You need:
Some MST3K DVDs. You and I have very similar tastes, it seems like, down to Pantera and Primus. I think you'd enjoy them.

By the way, are referring to the Peter Jackson Dead Alive? If so, I'm waiting for a SE. If you're taking about Miike Dead or Alive, I've just been putting off buying the box set

    Hey James,
I own all three of the needed DVDs. Desperado is the El Mariachi/Desperado disc. For some reason, it's listed under Mariachi in DVD Profiler. I own both Italian Jobs, they're in there. But, you did catch that I don't have Unbreakable entered. Thank you.

When I first saw it, I hated it. I put it in one night as background noise to write a paper, and now it's one of my favorite films. I think it does take a second viewing. The first time I saw it, I was disgusted, but the second time I found it hilarious.
