Have a friend looking to purchase two displays for his new home.

He saw a Sharp 70" LC-70LE757U display for $1500 at a local store.

I don't particularly care for Sharp.

Trying to steer him towards a Samsung Plasma or LCD, pending on how much light comes in his room.

The Samsung 64 F5500 sounds like a great plasma choice. However, reflection is a concern.

What are the two top picks for plasma and LCD in this price range?

LG never made anything bigger than 60 in plasma(they haven't, yet, said if they are exiting plasma).

Sharp branded(anything not Aquos) is best avoided. If that was an Aquos...I'd grab it(Branded Sharp is ODM made by whoever. Aquos is Sharp).

Best $1500 plasma at a 65 is whatever you can find still in the box.

Schan,

This is the Sharp display that my friend found at a local store for $1500

http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-LC-70LE757-70-inch-Aquos-Quattron/dp/B00BJFS6M4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407688292&sr=8-1&keywords=LC-70LE757U

It is an Aquos. It is selling for $500 less than what Amazon wants. That's pretty amazing.

The reviews are average.

I would talk him into a Samsung plasma if I knew he was putting it in a room without windows.
I am still working on getting that answer.

Dave, I will look at the Wirecutter article. But, really, a Vizio?! I am looking for a quality display
and I don't think Vizio fits that bill -- or am I missing something?

Wirecutter summaries find very good things to say about Vizio, especially when budget is constrained. Their top pick is the Sumsung plasma, which is $3000+ for 65 inch. If I had only $1500 for a 65", from what I've read, I'd give Vizio a look.I haven't researched TVs in a while, especially at the larger size, so can't say anything about how LG or Sharp compares to Vizio.
