My stepbrother and his wife are looking for a new tv and their budget is 1500. His wife is dead set on plasma even though she knows nothing about it besides being flat Nd thin. I don't know enough to give an honest recommendation.

If they really want a plasma, I'm sure the Panasonic TH-50PX75U will be on sale in the $1500 in the coming weeks as Black Friday approaches (day after Thanksgiving). If you can stretch the budget a little more, the TH-50PX77U (has the anti-glare screen) is another option.

I haven't bought one yet but I have been researching the heck out of them and the Panasonic Plasmas seem to be the best bang for the buck in Plasmas. Sears has the Panasonic TH-50PX75U (720p) on sale for $1,599 right now, and all 50" sets are $250 off if you buy it with their store card. This deal is good through 11/21. They also have the 42" version on sale for $1,099 - $150 on the 42" sets if you use their card.

The 42" 1080p version is on sale for $1,199 - $150 with the card. I guess prices have dropped fast for the 1080p version to compete against LCD. The 50" 1080p versions are still up around $2,300- $2,500 they aren't discounting much right now.

HH Gregg is supposed to have a 720P Panasonic 50" plasma (assuming the 75U) for $1399 on sale the Fri & Sat after Thanksgiving. Also a Sony Bravia 46" 1080P LCD for $1599.

Sears has a 46" Sharp Aquos LCD for $999, must be 720P at that price. The price is for the morning only, goes up to $1199 in the afternoon. Assuming this is a Fri sale.
