Honestly, I can say...

1. Dark Knight
I have seen this twice in theaters, twice on Blu, once on DVD with various friends/family. It never gets old.

2. LOTR trilogy
Amazing cinematic accomplishement.

3. No Country For Old Men
Just a damn great movie.

4. The Departed
Everything about that movie is kick-ass.

5. Million Dollar Baby
Great movie...gut-punching ending.

My top 90's list looks VASTLY different in types of moives. Less Drama, more Terminator/Fight Club. Although, Shawshank Redemption is my favorite from the 90's.

Some truly great films listed.

What amazes me is that some of the titles were in the past ten years.

So many of them seem like they must be older than 10 years.

Funny how time plays tricks like that.

I have "Requiem for a Dream" as a top contender for the best of the decade but for this list, I had dropped it. Not because it's not a great film, which it is, it's just that it's the worst best movie I've ever seen. The subject matter was brutally portrayed and as such, one of the most disturbing films of all time. Ellen Burstyn was at her best and I still can't get her performance out of my mind. Would I watch this film again? No, it's just too disturbing. Would I watch Schindler's List again - probably not; again, too disturbing. Then again, I have "The Pianist" on my top of the decade and that too is very disturbing.

Which begs the question - does a film have to have repeat viewing as one of its criteria to make it on the list?

Hmmm... in no particular order:

Speed Racer
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Dancer In The Dark
LOTR
Requiem for a Dream

I'd be more comfortable with a top 10, since there's a bunch of personal faves that I would easily swap out with these. These ones though, where the ones that came to mind when I though "Which ones were unlike anything I'd ever seen?" Weird to see Speed Racer in there I know, but it was a "flying car" of a movie for me where I thought "The future of films is here." I guess time will tell, seems everyone hates it now. :frowning:

It's tough for me to say that one five-star movie is better than another five-star movie. Here are 10 (12 if you count LOTR as three) movies that I will recommend wholeheartedly.

Ocean's Eleven
A Beautiful Mind
The Lord of the Rings
Finding Nemo
Cars
Ratatouille
X2: X-Men United
Chicago
The Incredibles
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

1. Adaptation. (2002)
2. X2: X-Men United (2003)
3. Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)
4. Traffic (2000)
5. Sideways (2004)
6. Donnie Darko (2001)
7. High Fidelity (2000)
8. Before Sunset (2004)
9. City of God (2002)
10. Requiem for a Dream (2000)

I just saw "Slumdog Millionaire" and "American Splendor" for the first time recently, but I already believe they're worthy of mention as some of the best of this decade. These aren't necessarily what I consider the best movies of the decade (so far) objectively, just the ones that I consider most moving while at the same time being excellently written/directed/acted.

:emoji_thumbsup: to "Tarkin" for mentioning "X2"...I like "The Dark Knight" and "Spider-Man 2" as much as the next guy, but I still (and probably always will) think that it's the best superhero/comic book movie ever.
